Population Growth
• The term "population growth" refers to how the number of individuals in a population increases with time.
• This growth is controlled by the rate at which new individuals are added to the population -- the birth rate, and the rate at which individuals leave the population -- the death rate.
![Page 5: Impact of population growth on national development](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051706/58f00db21a28abda168b4687/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
There are three things that affect the population size of the world:• Birth rate- the number of live babies born per
thousand of the population per year.• Death rate-the number of deaths per thousand of the
population per year.• Migration
![Page 6: Impact of population growth on national development](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051706/58f00db21a28abda168b4687/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
• When the birth rate is higher than the death rate, more people are being born than are dying, so the population grows
• This is called Natural increase• When the death rate is higher than the birth rate it
is called the natural decrease.
![Page 7: Impact of population growth on national development](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051706/58f00db21a28abda168b4687/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

![Page 11: Impact of population growth on national development](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051706/58f00db21a28abda168b4687/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

![Page 13: Impact of population growth on national development](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051706/58f00db21a28abda168b4687/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
