The University of Limpopo motto ( Finding Solutions Africa ), UL Strategic plan ( UL2020) :

- The skills and knowledge transfer achieved through the IMPALA Project will help the UL to address its strategic goal no: 1 which seeks to Improve the quality of teaching and learning at the University

- Development of internationalization strategy and policy drafts that where achieved through IMPALA Project, addresses goal no: 7 of UL2020 that seeks to enhance level of governance and administration within the University.

- the Introduction of the first summer school programme/Establishment of mobility tool kid will assist UL to achieve goal no: which aims to achieve better integration between the three core functions of the University. Which is teaching and learning , research and community engagement.

Impact

Impact (describe the impact of IMPALA Project at Institutional /Individual Level)

IMPALA Project has impacted our institution positively. the University benefited a Digital Video Conference (DVC) equipment which support internationalization at home. IMPALA has also advance the quality human resources in areas of internationalization.

Dissemination

- creating Community of Impala Alumni (CIA) within the University which will serve as a group of advisory in the University community. CIA information will be available on the website of the International Affairs' office.

- Informing and providing training for COIL and Usage of the DVC equipment in the University community.

Sustainability

Adoption of the internationalization strategy and policy which will require internationalization activities such as summer schools programme, staff and student exchange programmes that will run on yearly basis. The strategy will encourage faculties and schools to look out for funding opportunities through the International Office.

Sustaining the DVC equipment through the development of new curriculum for COIL and by increasing the life span of the equipment through proper management and monitoring of usage.

Working Group 1: Internationalisation strategy coordinator:Mr Makhubela OJ

Mr Ordnance Jabu Makhubela was born in 07 August 1987, in a rural village of Mohlaba (Sasekani) some 24km outsideTzaneen, Limpopo Province, South Africa. He is a graduate of University of Limpopo, where he received an Honours Degreein Human Resources Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration.

After graduating he joined International Affairs Department at UL where he is currently working as an International AffairsPractitioner. Jabu worked with so many different people in high positions, creating numerous good networking locally andinternationally. He is a diversified person which is self-explanatory in his ability to work with people from different ethnicgroups, countries and backgrounds.

Some of the international funded projects that he is involved in to further enhance internationalisation at UL:

He together with colleagues from 3 Universities in South Africa (CPUT, UL, UFH and UNIVEN) and 3 Universities inEurope successfully applied for funding from the EU for the IMPALA EU project. The project received a sum of 1 MillionEuros for duration of 3 years (2016-2018) for capacity building in Higher Education.

He together with 5 colleagues from Universities in South Africa, 3 in Mozambique and 3 in Europe successfully applied forfunding from EU for the LaTFURE project. The project received the sum of 1 Million Euros for a duration of 3 years (2017-2019. The project is aimed at implementing dual studies in the field of Mining, Tourism and Hospitality.

Vusi Moses Makamu is currently doing his first year of PhD in Public Administration, Idid my first and second degree with the University of Limpopo( B. Admin and Hons inPublic Admin) and then did my Masters with University of Antwerp in Belgium (Master of Governance & Development). I am

currently working as an International Affairs practitioner at the University ofLimpopo. I focus on scholarships, local and international partnerships andcollaborations of the University.

3.1 Decolonisation of the curriculum and AfricanizationCoordnator:Mr Mashamaite KA

Mr. Kgalema Mashamaite is a Lecturer in the Department of Development Planningand Management at University of Limpopo. His research, teaching or pedagogicalinterest is development policy, planning and management. More specifically, hisareas of interest include local economic development, entrepreneurship and smallbusiness development, community development planning, strategic planning andmanagement, rural and social development; and integrated development planning.His doctoral work/project examines rural entrepreneurship and its implicationstowards local economic development.

Mr. Masenyani Oupa Mbombi is currently lecturing General Nursing Science at leveltwo and three under School of Healthcare in the Faculty of Health Sciences. He isinvolved in supervision of honours, Primary Healthcare and Masters Researchprojects in the Department of nursing Science. He is a PhD student at NelsonMandela University, with a title of strategies to reduce prolong completion period ofpostgraduate nursing students at South African universities.

My name is Motanti Mary Mogashoa I am working as lecturer and a researcher in theDepartment of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology, University of Limpopo. Ihave the following degrees, B. A. (Microbiology) - Southern Illinois University-Carbondale,USA, and M.Sc. (Veterinary Science) – University of Pretoria, South Africa. Currently, I amengaged in several research projects that involve Indigenous Knowledge Systems,specifically, the scientific validation of the use of indigenous medicinal plants. I have beeninvolved in internationalization activities that involve human capacity building by studyingfor a degree in Microbiology at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, USA, andparticipated in the student exchange program in Bioentrepreneurship in Switzerland. Ihave published several papers in peer-reviewed journals, introducing and teachingbiotechnology courses to the students and the community in the University of Limpopo. Iam also a member of the community Engagement Committee in the School of Molecularand Life Sciences.

Annah Chuene is an admin officer in the International office. Annah is also a studentleader and has held various leadership positions in her life within the universitysetting and community context including the IMPALA Mobility Toolkit track. Herleadership role was recognised in 2016 when she was awarded The Abe Bailey TravelBursary by The Abe Bailey Trust to visit the African Union Headquarters in Ethiopiaand tour the UK. She has written and presented a paper at the IEASA Conference(2017) on Ethical Leadership being a central ingredient for Internationalisation.
