The implementation has started to bring Data Center 4 online as the district’s colocation facility. The
Cisco core network electronics were delivered and are being racked. The network cables are being
run to cabinets 6 and 7. An issue arose in cabinet 11 related to lack of power. That was corrected
this week. Though tedious and careful planning is required, good progress is being made!

Goal 5.1
On Tuesday, July 14, 2015, the CFISD team
of Frankie Jackson, Paula Ross, Oscar Villar,
and Roland Padilla, met with AT&T’s project
management and technical team, Natasha
Pratt, Lynette Lange, Stuart Henderson, and
other AT&T technical staff, to kick-off the
telephone system upgrade, as part of Bond
Goal 5.1
The agenda included a review of the overall
scope, general timelines, the current CFISD
network infrastructure upgrade project
schedule and a timeframe for placing phone
circuits orders.
Stuart Henderson, Oscar Villar, Lynette Lange,
and Natasha Pratt
The project to upgrade the district’s legacy telephone system will be massive. The conversion to Voice over
IP Communications (VoIP) will require significant technical consideration, due to the network infrastructure
and data center upgrades. A tentative start date for implementation is set for October 2015.

Frankie Jackson visited Cy-Creek high school on Monday, July 13, 2015 to observe Anna Senties, CFISD’s
network analyst, leading the way in the network infrastructure upgrades. Anna has the lead in coordinating
the upgrades with Presidio, MCA Communications, Gigabit, and other CFISD support staff. The upgrade
requires that the team work 14 hour days during the first part of the week in an effort to prepare the
equipment so that campus down-time will be kept to the bare minimum of less than 2 hours. All network
electronics are installed and testing is underway. Anna’s leadership and dedication is greatly appreciated!

Act Now! CoSN needs your voice on Capitol Hill
to help close the Homework Gap.
The Senate is now debating revisions to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, including proposals
to promote out-of-school broadband access. Senator Angus King (I-ME) and Senator Shelley Moore Capito
(R-WV) have introduced two broadband digital equity focused amendments. CoSN issued a statement in
support of this amendment.
The proposed amendments would: (1) establish a demonstration program to develop, implement, and
evaluate strategies for boosting out-of-school broadband access; and (2) authorize the U.S. Department of
Education's research division to conduct a study on student access to digital learning resources outside of
the school day.
Please contact your U.S. Senators today and urge them to support the King-Capito broadband for
learning amendments! Time is very short. Act Now. To send a message to your Senator, go to the
CoSN advocacy page , click on red Take Action button on the right side of the page , enter your zip
code on the next page and you will then come to a page with the sample letter.
Thanks for making your voice heard on this important issue to advance digital equity. Irene K.Spero
