Light Luxury Import Vehicle Sales Trends in Canada - January - September 2012 The top 4 German brands combined grew their luxury light vehicle sales 10% during Jan – Sept 2012, vs. the same period in 2011 65,709 total sales – Jan – Sept 2012 Recovering from devastating natural disasters the year before, the top 3 Japanese brands nonetheless grew their combined 2012 sales 13% vs. the same period in 2011 29,233 total sales - Jan – Sept 2012 Acura was the leading Japanese brand, followed closely by Lexus. In terms of luxury and near-luxury auto import sales in Canada this year, the major German and Japanese brands have held their own in a volatile 2012 economy. All the major luxury brands in Canada have hybrid vehicle offers, even though current customer demand for luxury hybrids is still modest. In terms of percentage growth, the ranking is almost exactly reversed, with the brands with smallest unit sales showing the greatest per cent improvement in growth vs. the same period in 2011. It might be argued that in terms of price points, Porsche is a “super – premium” brand, and as such does not fit in this comparison, but it’s still a German sports-luxury brand, and has therefore been included.
