practice.
Purpose of Church
Colonial families came
early to church to do business.
Only place to socialize,
advertise and celebrate
in colonies
Many colonial families would come to church to talk about tobacco and livestock prices and other cash crops.
People came to read adds, important town meeting dates, cattle sales and marriages.
Events during and after church.Sermons in northeastern colonies
lasted two to three hours and
prayer were a little shorter. In southern colonies the church’s

were so long that the sermon was
