Assistant Principals' Report Transition, Grade 5 visits This week has seen Grade 5 students from Mildura Primary School and Koorlong Primary School attend classes on Tuesday, whilst students from Irymple Primary School and Irymple South Primary School attended ISC on Thursday. Students were involved in Food, Wood and Art classes on their secondary school transition excursion. Year 9 visit Our Year 9 students all boarded the bus Thursday for their first transition experience at Mildura Senior College. After meeting in the school's gym, form groups were shown around the classrooms, looking at the subject offerings at the VCE level. Romeo and Juliet performance
Some of our Year 9 and 10 students have been very fortunate over the past two weeks to experience
live dramatic Shakespearean performances. A group went into the Arts Centre to watch key scenes delivered from a range of Shakespeare's well known tragedies and comedies, then on Tuesday of this week students were entertained with a performance of 'Romeo and Juliet'. Interim Reports We will be distributing our Term 3 reports a week earlier on Monday 9th September and holding our Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews on Tuesday 10th September. Please put these dates in your diary and refer to the back page in this newsletter for information on booking appointments. Dedication of Cenotaph
On Thursday 15th August, it gave our school great pleasure to support the Irymple community in attending the Dedication of the
new Cenotaph. Robyn Blackie / Anne Symes Assistant Principals

Mildura Senior College Orientation Day and
2014 Handbook
On Friday, August 2, all Year 10s participated in
Orientation Day activities at the Mildura Senior
College. This is part of the process of students
selecting subjects to undertake next year.
During the afternoon, students visited all areas
of the school, met teachers and gathered
information about the range of subjects on
offer. The key differences between VCAL and
the VCE were also discussed.
This will be a busy time of the year for our Year
10s as they consider their options for next year.
Students requiring careers counselling are
encouraged to speak to their STEPS teacher,
subject teachers and Careers staff for further
information. Parents can also contact the
Careers Team for further information as
required. There will be further
Orientation/Transition activities throughout the
year.
If your child is planning on attending the Senior
College next year, please return their enrolment
form to the front office ASAP (these are now
overdue). Copies were included with student
reports, but spares can be obtained from the
school if required.
Further information about subjects for next year
is available in the Senior College Handbook.
Students have been given hard copies of these,
but they can also be downloaded online at the
Mildura Senior College website:
http://www.milsen.vic.edu.au/ - go to “About”
and then “Handbook.” You can also view the
videos shown to students during Orientation

A Shaky Experience
A group of 60 students from Years 9 & 10
recently enjoyed an outing to the Arts Centre
Theatre to take in a touring production called
“The Complete Works of William
Shakespeare”.
While the title of the show sounds a bit
daunting, the performance was actually very
clever, funny, risque and entertaining and the
two hours’ duration of the presentation flew by.
A few students seemed unsure how to react to
some of the “rude bits” until they saw the
teachers cracking up, and from there it was all
plain sailing.
A team of 3 actors presented the hectic
performance in which all 37 of Shakespeare’s
works got at least a passing mention in some
form, whether as a funky rap (Othello), a
football call (all the English History Plays
combined) or a backwards rendition of Hamlet.
There was also plenty of audience interaction
with Kristie Weightman of Year 10 showing
impressive confidence in her guest appearance
onstage as Ophelia in the Hamlet scene.
A snap survey of Mr Sauer’s Year 9 English class
(which has almost OD’d on Romeo and Juliet
this term) saw the average rating for the show
at about 8.5 out of 10 and the experience was a
great way to get a sense of both the brilliance
and the humour of the greatest ever writer in
the English language.

Schools Bilby Day Friday 6th September - ISC
Environment Club
Sadly, many of Australia’s animals are
threatened. Habitat destruction, changed fire
patterns, pollution, and introduced species such
as foxes and feral cats are the main reason why
many of our Australian animals are dying. The
Bilby population is
endangered and much
more work is needed to
secure this species. To
help raise awareness and
funds to help stop the extinction of Australian
native animals, the Irymple Secondary College
Environment Club is hosting Schools Bilby Day
here at school on Friday the 6th of September.
We would like everyone to wear something
green to school and bring a gold coin donation
for wearing green and to buy a famous Gibbo’s
sausage at lunch time! Go green for the Bilby,
we don’t want the only bilbies left in the future
to be stuffed ones!
Students can also enter the Threatened Animals
Crossword Challenge for a chance to win a visit
from a bilby to our school and $100 for the
winning student, and other prizes. Students
interested in attempting the crossword
challenge can collect a crossword from Mrs
McClure. Lunchtime research sessions will also
be held if students are interested. Completed
entries are due by the end of school on Friday
30th September.
Mrs McClure - Environmental Co-ordinator
