Spinal surgery has made great strides in the 21st century. On one hand there has been tremendous technological advance, on the other hand, dedicated spinal
surgeons have fruitfully applied newer technology to evolve newer surgical techniques in an attempt to make life more comfortable and less time consuming in the hospital for the patient.
Modern spinal surgery is committed to send the patient to the original job as quickly as possible. Today spinal surgery is minimally invasive, endoscopically oriented; use of percutaneous techniques along with the laser has seen many spinal surgical techniques become an out-patient procedure. However as it is said, that all that glitters is not gold, the newer techniques require sophisticated instrumentation. In India, not many people can afford this luxury. All the same, it is heartening to know charitable organisations, NGOs and the corporate section have been extremely co-operative to take newer technology to rural Indian patients. Today, India can boast of having state-of-the-art hospitals in major cities which caters for most of the patients draining from rural areas and giving them the advantage of newer technology.
Dr J.K.B.C. Parthiban, the president of NSSA and the organising chairman of the 2012 Annual Conference in Chennai is poised to hold the conference with huge international faculty, side by side to our Indian faculty, to orient our doctors in the newer concepts in spinal surgery.
Workshops have become an extremely sought after event in the conferences. Dr Parthiban has proposed hands-on and the live surgeries from the topics of modern spinal surgery. I have no doubt that this conference is going to be a great source of education and learning for young doctors and an opportunity for senior doctors to exchange views and interact with the international faculty.
Dr Parthiban has my best wishes to conduct a scintillating and memorable event.

Dear Friends, It gives us great pleasure to represent the organizing team in inviting you all for the Annual Conference
of Neuro Spinal Surgeons Association India, SPINE 2012 to be held between September 13th and 16th in Chennai
“Knowledge is the primary need of the Hour” and Spine 2012, has been designed to further
accentuate this development in an overall and fulfilling manner. The scientific committee is working
hard to intergrate a program which will be advanced and challenging. Top stalwarts from India and all
over the world will be available for interaction and for imparting latest information in field of
neurosciences. Spine 2012 will be focusing on “Cervical Spine and Spinal Cord”. It will also definitely be a promising platform for technical growth of residents and young doctors.
“Cadaver Dissection Course” - is the sparkler of this conference. We are working on enhancement of this course so as to make the best practical learning experience.
Chennai is a city of great historic importance in India. It is known as “the gate way of South India”.
Despite being an important city for manufacturing, Health care and IT, Chennai has managed to retain
a charm of its own. It’s a sprawling and busy yet a conservative city with deep traditions and culture, and hence known as the Cultural Capital.
We are honored to be the host for the year 2012 and promise you a package filled with lots of knowledge and good entertainment. We assure you good memories to carry back after Spine 2012.
Looking forward to meet you all in Chennai, come September.
Regards,

Chennai, formerly known as Madras or Madarasapatinam is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil
Nadu, located on the Coromandel Coast off Bay of Bengal. Chennai is the fourth most populous metro-
politan area and the sixth most populous city in India, as of 2011.
Chennai's economy has a broad industrial base in the automobile, computer, technology, hardware
manufacturing and healthcare industries. A major chunk of India's automobile manufacturing industry is
based in and around the city, which leads it to be called as 'The Detroit of Asia'. The city is also called as
'Gateway to South India', due to its importance as a port city and its major role in South India's
development.
Chennai is an important centre for Carnatic music and hosts a large cultural event, the annual Madras
Music Season, which includes performances by hundreds of artists. The city has a vibrant theatre scene
and is an important centre for the Bharata Natyam, a classical dance form. The Tamil film industry, the
second largest film industry in India, is based in Chennai.
