WORKS START JANUARY 2015 Important traffic information The first phase of the transformation of Paradise at the heart of the city will begin in January 2015. This important step will see the commencement of demolition of existing buildings to clear the site for the new development, together with work on new road layouts to improve connectivity and access across the city for both road users and pedestrians. WHAT’S HAPPENING AND WHEN? From 5th January 2015 – Bus Diversions Bus routes 82, 83, 87 and 89 will be diverted via Newhall Street and Newhall Hill. * From 10th January 2015 – Summer Row Temporary Closures Temporary restrictions to ALL vehicles between Lionel Street and Great Charles Street. Diversion route will be in place and signed. Parking restrictions: ALL parking on Summer Row will be suspended. * From 17th January 2015 – Parade/Sand Pits Diversions for traffic travelling out of the city Outbound traffic: Parade/Sand Pits closed to ALL vehicles. Diversion in place via Cambridge Street for vehicles travelling out of the city. Traffic into city open to all vehicles with reduced lanes. * From 17th January 2015 – Broad Street/ Bridge Street/Holliday Street Temporary overnight closures with diversions. Broad Street lane restrictions into city from Bridge Street. * From 31st January 2015 – Broad Street Restrictions and Diversions for traffic into the city Access on Broad Street restricted from Bridge Street to buses and Hackney Carriages only for traffic into city. Diversion routes will be in place and signed. Significant disruption/delays should be expected during the first phase of works which will last for approximately 18 months. It is strongly recommended that alternative forms of transport should be used during the Paradise works. Use public transport wherever possible. Birmingham City Centre is well served by rail, bus and Metro services – for more information and journey planning advice please visit: networkwestmidlands.com Plan your journey. If you have to travel by car and your journey would normally take you through the Paradise Circus area please consider alternative routes as your journey may be disrupted and you may face delays. Car sharing. If you have to use your car for commuting, consider setting up a car-share arrangement with colleagues. Staggered working times. Traffic is heaviest during the morning and evening peak periods. Consider earlier or later working hours to avoid these periods. Travel by foot/cycle. If your journey is relatively short, consider walking or cycling. Paradise is part of the Birmingham Connected vision. Over the next 20 years Birmingham City Council will reinvent the way in which people and goods move across the city.
