Butthereisnosimplesolutionandno‘onesizefitsall’.Oneschool’s

Lookatwaystoremovetensionfromthediningexperience.Forexample,childrenandyoung
peoplecanfeelrushedif,whiletheyarestilleatinglunch,supervisorscomeandclearaway
tables.Queuescanalsobetense.
Promotesocialskills
Inbothprimaryandpost-primaryschoolsitisimportanttothinkabouttheyoungestmembersof
theschool.Ifyouareabletopromotesocialskills,suchastablemanners,andfamiliarisethem
withtheprocessoftheschoolmealinanopenandnon-threateningway,theywillbeableto
carrythisintotheirfutureyearsatschool.
Diningroomrules
Spendtimeinassemblymakinglinksbetweenyourschoolrulesanddiningroombehaviour.

Therearemanynaturallinkswhichcanbemadetootherschoolfoodprojects,dependingon
yourschool.Linkstoimprovingdiningprovisioncouldinclude:
• Encouragingpupilstomaketheirownbreakfastclubcornerorcaféinthediningroom.
• Ensuringthatwaterisfreelyavailableandpromotedtoallpupilsinthediningroom.You
couldconsiderincentivestoencourageincreasedwaterconsumption.
