On October 13, 2015, Aaron Kueck, Ph.D., presented a 30 minute webinar entitled “Case Studies of Aircraft Engine Turbine Blade Failures” to an online crowd of over 200.

Presented in conjunction with TechBriefs Media

Group, the 30 minute webinar covered several case studies of failed turbine blades and their failure mechanisms. Aaron’s presentation had clear, detailed photomicrographs and expert insights into various failure modes, as well as a very busy q&a at the end.

The webinar will be available until 10/2016.https://event.webcasts.com/viewer/event.

Aaron Kueck, Ph.D. Presents Webinar on Case Studies of Aircraft Engine Turbine Blade Failures

IMR Louisville’s Brett Miller, P.E., FASM was recognized as a Fellow of the Society of ASM International for his contributions to, and achievements in, the field of materials science. A ceremony was held at MS&T 2015 in Columbus, OH in October to present the award to Brett and all of this year’s inductees.

Brett is a recognized expert in the field of analytical services, and Technical Director of IMR Test Labs - Louisville. He is experienced and knowledgeable about failure modes and material properties, allowing him to provide insightful and concise analyses. Brett also serves as a mentor to IMR’s engineering staff both at Louisville and beyond.

Because of his wealth of knowledge and experience in analytical services, he was also chosen as a Curtiss-Wright Technical Fellow in 2014.

In 2013 Brett served as editor for the 3rd edition of Understanding How Components Fail by Donald J. Wulpi and ASM International. In addition to his preface to the edition, Brett also co-wrote the introduction, and reviewed and revised Chapter 6 on Basic Single-Load Fracture Modes.

Congratulations to Brett and all of the other 2015 ASM Fellow Inductees.

Ithaca Adds Accredited ICP-MS Analysis

Louisville Grows with New Staff, Equipment and Test Methods

IMR Test Labs in Ithaca, NY has added ICP-MS analysis with the purchase of a new Perkin Elmer NexION 350D ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometer.)

We calibrated, correlated and underwent numerous audits to ensure we are bringing you the highest quality ICP-MS data. All of this hard work helped us earn Nadcap and A2LA (ISO 17025) approvals for this testing.

The addition of ICP-MS analysis expands our extensive list of chemistry services which includes ICP-AES, OES, Ion Chromatography, FTIR, GC/MS, XRD and much more.

We can now report lower detection limits, potentially as low as parts per trillion without costly or time-consuming outsourcing. Our trained and knowledgeable chemistry staff can provide overflow testing when your in-house lab is full, testing to support R&D work, or we can also support volume material checks.

We’re confident in our ability to provide the most accurate analyses and the best reports/ certifications. Not only that, we have the most accessible staff in the industry, ready and willing to help you!

Ask us about a correlation test to compare our results to your old lab!

To learn more about ICP-MS analysis visit http://www.imrtest.com/tests/icp-ms-analysis

or contact Andy Ensign or Peter Damian at our NY lab.

The team at our Louisville, KY facility has been working in 2015 to add new equipment and testing.

• Late in 2014, Phillip Swartzentruber, Ph.D. joined our Failure Analysis group in Louisville. He is also currently pursuing his PE license, and specializes in electron microscopy, thin films and dealloying. Phillip earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Kentucky.

• Louisville is now offering accredited medical device cleanliness testing. Chemistry Manager Andy Waldron has added a TOC (Total Organic

Carbon) test setup. We are now proudly serving some of the biggest OEMs in the Medical industry with high quality analyses

of their cleaning processes. This is in addition to other medical industry services such as XRD analysis of hydroxyapatite, material checks, passivation testing and failure analysis.

• Dennis Johnson from our Mechanical group has recently added a hydrogen embrittlement setup to test for fasteners in addition to notched samples.

• Our Metallurgy group recently added Struers Durascan microhardness tester. This new tool allows us to perform automated testing for a faster turnaround on many samples and offer MacroVicker’s up to 10 kg loads.
