In 1851 there were less than 50 soldiers and a few police in Victoria. The gold

rush meant that more police had to be quickly recruited. It was when the police

tried to find the miners but they had a person who watched and told the miners The police are coming. The miners had to hide or run away from the police because if they got caught without licenses they

would go to jail.

The Eureka Stockade was the gold miners' rebellion held in Ballarat, Victoria. On 1st December 1854, some of the miners built

a wooden barricade by . At 3:00am on Sunday, 3 December 1854, 276 police and

military personnel and several civilians stormed the stockade.

• I thought it was very harsh since the doctors couldn’t help because they needed money and the miners couldn’t pay because of the licences'. if you needed to go to school you would have to pay money each time. It was also very hard to find food or drinks.

• Also the Chinese found it hard to get to the gold fields they would have to make a deal with the traders they would get there family to work for the trader till they comeback which could be in years.

I think the Gold Rush changed Australia in some good ways and some bad. People

from all over the world came to Australia because of the Goldfields and that was a way of starting the multi culture. People fought for their licenses and got rights to

vote and that started the democracy even when a few people died at the war.
