Thursday, May 10th, 12:00 - 1:00 Spencer County Chamber of Commerce and the Spencer Magnet are co-hosting a Spencer County Clerk Forum at the Chamber of Commerce Building 50 years ago May 10, 1962 Harvey Brown, senior baseball pitcher this year for Taylorsville High School, pitched a no-hit game here Thursday. Harvey baffled Mt. Washington with his fast ball and variations of curves. He didn’t allow a ball to be hit to the outfield in the 8 to 1 victory for Taylorsville. Mt. Washington’s run scored on an error by the second baseman, a stolen base and an error by the first baseman. Harvey’s no-hitter was not an accident as this was the third game he has held the opposi- tion hitless, going into the last inning this year. Shoddy team support kept him from getting no-hitters on two other occasions this year. In his masterpiece against Mt. Washington, he struck out 13 men. High School games go only seven innings, so this in itself is quite an accomplishment. “We think he is one of the better high school pitchers in the state and many other coaches in this area are of the same conten- tion,” Coach Mullins said. Harvey is also a tremendous hitter and has hit .450 or better in the two seasons previous to this one. He is also a power hitter. Harvey is a wonderful boy and follows instructions well. His ambition is to play pro- fessional baseball and we wish him success. A couple of professional teams have already shown interest in him. Carr 20 years ago May 13, 1992 City workers are a bit puzzled at why a new water tank built just south of Elk Creek near Hillsborough won’t fill during the night, but engineers remain optimistic. The new tank, which will fill to almost half full, has already increased water pressure in the area, according to Taylorsville Water Superintendent Dan Crowe, but it’s still a mystery as to why the tank doesn’t fill during the night while others tanks on the system do. Keith Sears, of PEH Engineers of Louisville, told the Taylorsville Commission May 5 that several “variables” still need to be worked out of the system before the problem can be solved but that the system is quite capable of filling the tank. The tanks (there are nine throughout the county) are filled by pumps during night for use during the day.
