SAFEGUARDING GOD’S CHILDREN: Just a reminder if you haven’t already taken the Safeguarding class you can still take one close to home! On September 25th there will be a class offered in Dominiak Hall at the Thiensville campus from 6:30-9:30 pm. You need to pre-register for the class. Look for the link on the school website under Headlines. If you plan to coach or volunteer at school in any capacity you must take the class first.

2ND GRADE SERVICE PROJECT - COATS FOR KIDS – SEPT 24 THRU OCT 5 It is that time of year again! Parents and families, please go through your closets and pull out any winter coats that no longer fit and donate them to Coats for Kids. The 2nd graders at Lumen Christi School will put donation boxes for new or gently used coats in the church and school at both campuses. The coats will be donated to FOX6 Condella’s Coats for Kids campaign. HAVE YOU TRIED MARKET DAY? If you’ve never ordered groceries from Market Day’s monthly grocery program, now is a great time to try it out. All new customers can save $5 when you spend $25 by entering promo code NEWFIVE at checkout. LC families enjoy the baby back ribs, frozen vegetables, and mini cheese omelets. It’s really easy to participate – place your order at www.marketday.com by Sept. 29th and then stop by the Mequon cafeteria on Wednesday, October 3rd from 3-4pm to pick up your items. Your order matters. Up to 20% of every order goes back to our Parents Association to fund events including Rainbow Olympics and the School Directory. If you need alternative pick up arrangements or have questions, please contact Kim Althaus at (262) 242-1963 or [email protected]. We can deliver to the Thiensville campus or keep in the freezer at Mequon. Catalogs are available at both school offices. Thank you for ordering! RETURNING CALLS TO EITHER SCHOOL OFFICE: Just a reminder that if you receive a call from Lumen Christi School, please do not hit re-dial when trying to call the school back. The number you will get on re-dial is from the parish office as the main number for Lumen Christi. This results in a lot of calls going to the parish office instead of through the school. Thiensville campus: 262-242-7965 Mequon campus: 262-242-7960 (Have trouble keeping them straight? Remember “0” is for the “older” students campus!)

KOHL’S WILD THEATER TO VISIT: Actors portraying animals from around the world will sing, dance and talk when Kohl’s Wild Theater takes the stage at 10:00 am at Thiensville on Thursday, October 11th, 2012. Kohl’s Wild Theater is a live, interactive, family-friendly program that promotes conversation of wildlife and animal habitats through drama, puppetry, and songs. During the free, 40-minute performance, actors will invite students to participate in two professionally performed plays and become part of the action by providing sound effects on cue and helping onstage characters. Kohl’s Wild Theater is made possible through a partnership between Kohl’s Cares and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. For more information of the Kohl’s Wild Theater program, visit www.wildtheater.org.

RESTAURANT GIVE BACK BEGINS: Mark your calendars for the first restaurant “give back”* of the school year. It will be held at the Mequon Chancery on Wednesday, September 26 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm and 5:00-9:00 pm. The Mequon Chancery will donate 10% off ALL sales during the listed time frames back to Lumen Christi. Dine in and carryout are available. No flyer is needed. This date is also an early release day for the school, so come for lunch and/or dinner. Bon Appetit! *Throughout the year, Lumen Christi will partner with restaurants in the community that “give back” a percentage of diners’ bills to Lumen Christi Catholic School. This past school year we made over $2250 with “give backs”. WATER BOTTLES AND BOOT BAGS The first spirit wear sale of the year has closed but you can still purchase water bottles and boot bags while supplies last in the office. Water bottles, in colors green and pink, are $10. The boot bags are $5. Checks can be made to Lumen Christi PA. Attention all 4th – 8th Grade Boys

Join us for MTBA Basketball Tryouts

When?

• Sunday, October 7th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 14th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00

p.m. Registration from 3:40 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Location?

• Homestead High School Field House

What is MTBA?

• MTBA is the Homestead Highlander Boys' Basketball Club. MTBA was created to provide

Mequon-Thiensville 4th through 8th grade boys with the opportunity to play in a more competitive

basketball environment than what is offered through the recreation department and middle school

programs. MTBA's primary goal is to prepare its players to play basketball at the high school

level. This is a competitive program and making a team and playing time are not guaranteed.

We will seek to have 2 to 3 evenly divided teams at the 4th and 5th grade levels. At the 6th, 7th and

8th grade levels we will seek to have 2 teams, including an "A" team and a "B" team.

What kind of Commitment is involved?

• The MTBA season will include playing in approximately nine tournaments between November

and March. Most tournaments tend to be within one hour of Mequon-Thiensville. Practices are

generally two week nights per week during the season and will begin the week of October 29th.

All practices are held at Mequon-Thiensville schools.

Who will be the coach?

• Teams are traditionally coached by parents of the boys. On this point, we are looking for parents

to coach (head or assistant), especially at the 4th grade level. The Homestead boys’ basketball

coaches will in this area by assisting in running early season practices and conducting clinics to

teach the basics of the Homestead offense and defense. Parents interested in coaching should

contact Doug Timmer.

We hope that you will tryout for an MTBA team. In addition, a parents’ informational meeting will be held

at 4:10 p.m. outside the HHS field house on Sunday, October 14. Please see the MTBA's new website at

www.leaguelineup.com/mtbahoopsclub for more information about the program. Feel free to contact

Doug with any questions at (414) 530-3908 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Kevin McKenna Doug Timmer
