DESCRIPTION

I devised a PowerPoint enabling me to go into more depth with regards to analysis of the Contents Page inside the 'Rolling Stones' magazine. Within this I have identified valid codes, conventions and connotations that relate to the magazine contents page as a whole.

IN DEPTH ANALYSIS:

Page 2: In Depth Contents Page Analysis

The images used clearly contrast with one another, the main, and most prominent image is that showing a black and white image, showing a reference to the past. This image is particularly iconic due to the fact that it features both a black and white male performing together at a time when segregation within performance was still an active part within society. We see the black male taking the lead and teaching the other individual a thing or two.

The second image, which is less significant features Beyoncé and once again reinforces the difference in time period. The sheer fact of the second image being in colour accentuates this. Image 2 conforms to the rule of thirds with regards to the fact that it is featured on the left third of the page, above the feature stories.

These two images work in combination with one another and emphasise the sheer progression of music and gives us an insight into just how it has developed, and what it has developed into.

The use of ‘RS’ in the contents page instead of using the full name ‘Rolling Stones’ reinforces the iconic aspects of the magazine chain. We are able to assume that the audience will already be well aware of this particular magazine due to its popularity, therefore will not need to be reminded. The use of the pink in combination with black and white creates a simplistic colour scheme that appears to have a feminine touch. The fact that the scheme is so minimalistic enables the house style to be maintained throughout the whole page.

Sub- heading are used to allow us to identify the features that this particular magazine contains. The maintenance of the colour scheme reinforces the house style and conforms to the qualities of an industry standard product; something that would be expected in a highly rated magazine. The font, contrasting with the white background provides us with ease of reading and does not provide any distractions.

Publishing information is also included at the bottom to give credit to those involved with the creation, editing and publication of the magazine. Another industry standard feature.

Page numbers are used to allow us to identify where the main story's will feature, providing us with ease of access. We are able to understand which features are most important due to them often containing an image in combination with a large page number, to make this clear to the audience. This is also due to the fact that these features will have been shown on the front cover, and due to not wanting to mislead the audience, these stories are often highlighted.
