September 1 Program with John Van de GriftThat magical box of microchips and glass between photogra-pher and subject can easily get in the way. Minimizing the role of the camera in the photographic process is one of the most important steps to extracting the inner artist. On September 1st, Jon will share his thoughts on ways to minimize the role of the camera along with various tips, anecdotes, and of course photographs in his interactive presentation that will provide some new perspectives on our craft.

Jon Van de Grift is an extreme weather photographer based in Boulder, Colorado. His photographs have been published world-wide in nearly every medium. What makes Jon’s photographs unique is his uncommon approach and lofty perspective. Be-yond the typical documentary snapshots of storms, Jon makes true fine art of some of the most dangerous weather on Earth. His platform of choice is a mountain summit and when that’s not available, he uses an aircraft. He is one of only a few fine art aerial photographers in the world.

This Month's Competition is TransportationOfficially, this is “Photos of anything to do with transportation. Examples are trains, planes, automobiles, train stations, airports, etc.” Judge will be Jeff Johnson.

If you need the Competition Entry forms or the template for the stick-on labels, you can get both from the Focus website on the Competition Rules page.

WorldWide PhotowalkScott Kelby's annual event is coming back in October. Saturday Oct 3rd to be exact.

It’s the social photography event of the year and you’re invited.

We all want to make beautiful images. We all want to make new friends. We all want to help children in need. And for one day each year, all three come together in a really fun way, and we want you to be a part of it.

Visit the WoldWide Photowalk website for details, local walks you can join, or to volunteer your time and energy to Lead a walk in the Denver area.

Frame #37A collection of extra tidbits I've discovered during the past few weeks.

— Take a Photowalk to relieve stress. Yes, it's good to get out and just walk around. Whether it's a new or old place for you, you can de-stress AND open up your creativity. Grab a camera and go...

— Have you used the HDR or Panorama tools in Lightroom 6? Maybe this tutorial will get you more famil-iar with the new tools in LR, and how to shoot images so you can get the best results out of them.

— Get ready for the Fall Colors in Colorado with this guide from Colorado.com and this 2014 guide from the Denverchannel. Knowing where and when to go will help ensure you come back with great images.

Style used to be an interaction between the human soul and tools that were limiting. In the digital era, it will have to come from the soul alone.

– Jaron Lanier
