In addition to a very good meal (wine at $6 per glass) and building tour, local MLA Murray Thompson pulled in an array of speakers from both sides of politics to address us as well as a politics reporter from the Australian Financial Review and some top Victorian cricketers. What else was noteworthy was how many of the politicians recognized Tim Dark amongst our midst – watch this space! I feel sorry for those members and partners who were not able to make it as the evening was a highlight. Well done to David Langworthy for organizing it though I suspect he did not know what Murray had in mind. At our board meeting last Thursday, a number of items were discussed including: Approval to donate $200 to Parkdale Secondary College to support their F1 Challenge teams; Approval to donate $250 to Sandringham Secondary Col- lege to support the running of a two-day job preparation expo; Approval to support a student from Sandringham College to attend the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) held last week-end; To continue to support Rebeccah Bartlett in the develop- ment of the project she outlined to us at a recent meeting; To support the Lift the Lid campaign (see brochure later in this edition) by donating (in addition to our normal annual donation) the equivalent of the proceeds of the raffle and barbecue at the October Farmers Market. The District has released a Youth Protection Policy and a Con- flict Resolution Policy, both of which our club has adopted. Summaries of both are included in this edition of In Gear and the full policies are available on the District 9810 website. Of special note is the requirement under the Youth Protection Pol- icy that when participating in any youth programs “All members and volunteers MUST hold a current Working with Children Registration Card”. The District also has a number of seminars coming up, which are open to any member to attend and to which members of relevant committees are encouraged to attend. Further details are available on the District website. Another initiative of District is the establishment of District 9810 Project Funds Ltd. This fund has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status which will allow clubs to offer tax deductibility for domestic projects that meet the required criteria. Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) will continue to be the equivalent vehicle for international projects. As ever, we are on the look out for good projects and now we can offer tax deductibility. A reminder that District Conference bookings are now open and any member going to Geelong is encouraged to register and let Trish Smyth know when you have, We have Axel Forster speaking to us on Thursday. Axel is the CEO of Rychiger, a Swiss packaging company that makes coffee capsule manufacturing machines, a market that has seen exponential expansion in recent years. So come along and learn more about how the world is getting its coffee fix

Beaumaris Rotary Event Photos Below: the new venue for the Farmer’s Market proved a hit with the customers. The smaller grounds providing a more intimate atmosphere. For the first time we tried a Book Stall as well as a BBQ.

Kerrie and Chris handling the registrations at the Concourse Car & Bike Show.

Amongst the superbly turned out classic cars on display a couple of lemons. A Ford Edsel and a Tri-umph Herald, both cars not notable for their desira-bility or sales success. However, they are rare and

somebody obviously loves them (although the Edsel is for sale!).
