Presidents Report Thanks to Fred Hofmann, who though absent from the meet-ing, arranged for a presentation from Axel Forster, visiting from Switzerland. As well as being a Rotarian, Axel is the CEO of a packaging company that manufactures machines that make coffee capsules. A good turnout of members and partners heard a very interesting presentation that provided many new insights on the world coffee business.

Our speaker on Thursday is Geoff Bransbury who is making a return visit. The last time he spoke to us he enthralled us with the story of his motor bike trip across Asia and Europe. This time Geoff will be talking about his travels in North America, which no doubt will be as interesting as before. Next week we have changed our regular Thursday meeting to Tuesday night (4th October) when we will be combining with Hampton Rotary for a “Lift the Lid” themed night. Members are encouraged to wear a hat, whether elegant or outrageous. This will be a fun night. Contact Megan Glenwright for more details. And we can take our hats to the Farmers Market on Saturday 8th October. As advised previously we will be donating part of the proceeds from this market to the “Lift the Lid” campaign. This will be at the end of a week of considerable publicity for this campaign. There will be a District 9810 seminar on Community Service on Friday 7th October and another on Social Media on Friday 14th

Both of these social media presentations are led by Evan Burrell from NSW. And finally do not forget to put reminders in your diaries for two fellowship activities coming soon. The first is a Rail n’ Sail Day on Sunday 16 October. And on Thurs-day 17 November we will be visiting the Beaumaris The-atre Company to see their end-of-year production, a comedy called “One for the Pot”. Yours in Rotary

A Swan Song and Dance

Children wearing flowy, blue costumes and swan headpieces represent the canton of Zurich at the Saignelégier Horse Show in Saignelégier, Switzerland. “Every year at the horse show, one of the Swiss cantons is invited as a special guest. This year it was Zurich’s turn,” photogra-pher Markus Bolliger writes. Swans are a com-mon sight on Zurichsee (Lake Zurich).
