TRANSCRIPT
February 1 & 2 - Every Little Step (2008) Glimpse at what happens back-
stage at a Broadway show with this docu-
mentary that follows hopeful dancers as
they audition for spots in the 2006 revival
of "A Chorus Line." Clear parallels exist
between the aspiring actors and the events
in the play. Rated PG-13, 93min
February 4 & 5 - A Chorus Line (1985)
Based on the smash hit Broadway musical
with a score by Marvin Hamlisch and star-
ring Michael Douglas, A Chorus Line tells
the story of a group of young dancers au-
ditioning for a part in a new show. It in-
cludes such song hits as "What I Did for
Love," "Dance 10, Looks 3" and "At the Ballet." The
stage version won many Tony Awards and even a Pu-
litzer Prize. Rated PG-13, 118min
February 8 & 9 - The Sound of Music (1965) In Rodgers and Hammerstein's
greatest collaboration, a feisty postulant
named Maria (Julie Andrews) is sent to
care for the unruly, motherless Von Trapp
children. She soon tames them -- and finds
herself falling for their stern father
(Christopher Plummer). Oscar-winning director Robert
Wise used stunning Austrian locations to transform the
popular stage musical into a cinema classic in which the
hills truly seemed to come alive. This is the 50th Anni-
versary of it’s original release. Rated G, 174min
February 11 & 12 - Sleepless in Seattle (1993) Fate and a tenacious 8-year-old
boy conspire to unite lovelorn widower
Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) and unhappily
engaged journalist Annie Reed (Meg
Ryan) in this Oscar-nominated romantic
comedy inspired by the 1957 classic An
Affair to Remember. Rated PG, 105min
February 15 & 16 - The Good Lie (2014)
They were known simply as "The Lost
Boys." Orphaned by the brutal Civil war in
Sudan that began in 1983, these young vic-
tims traveled as many as a thousand miles
on foot in search of safety. Fifteen years later, a human-
itarian effort would bring 3600 lost boys and girls to
America. Philippe Falardeau brings the story of their
survival and triumph to life. Sudanese actors Arnold
Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal, and Nyakuoth Weil,
many of whom were also children of war, star alongside
Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon and Corey
Stoll. Rated PG-13, 110min
February 18 & 19 - To Kill a Mocking-
bird (1962) Southern comforts abound in
this big-screen adaptation of Harper Lee's
novel as lawyer Atticus Finch (Gregory
Peck, in an Oscar-winning role) defends
an innocent black man (Brock Peters)
against rape charges but ends up in a
maelstrom of hate and prejudice. Meanwhile, with help
from a friend (John Megna), Finch's children, Jem
(Phillip Alford) and Scout (Mary Badham), set their
sights on making contact with a reclusive neighbor
(Robert Duvall). Not Rated, 130min
February 22 & 23 - Calvary (2014) Fa-
ther James (Brendan Gleeson) is a good
priest who is faced with sinister and trou-
bling circumstances brought about by a
mysterious member of his parish. Alt-
hough he continues to comfort his own
fragile daughter (Kelly Reilly) and reach
out to help members of his church, he feels sinister and
troubling forces closing in, and begins to wonder if he
will have the courage to face his own personal Calvary.
Rated R, 100min
February 25 & 26 - Boyhood (2014)
Filmed over 12 years with the same cast.
A groundbreaking story of growing up
as seen through the eyes of a child
named Mason (Ellar Coltrane), who lit-
erally grows up on screen before our
eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia
Arquette as Mason's parents. Snapshots
of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to
birthdays and graduations and all the moments in be-
tween become transcendent. Both a nostalgic time cap-
sule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and
parenting. Rated R, 164min

February 10 - Speaker: City of Dallas Mayor, Mike Rawlings
“It’s a great time to live in Dallas, Texas.” Mayor Rawlings will
talk on looking back at 2014 and ahead to 2015. Elected Mayor in
June 2011, Mike Rawlings came to Dallas in 1976 with $200 dol-
lars in his pocket and proved that Dallas truly is The City of Oppor-
tunity. He worked his way up from an entry-level position to be-
come the CEO of Tracy-Locke, then the largest advertising agency
in the South. Later, he took the helm of the world’s largest pizza
company, Pizza Hut, and grew it to record sales. Most recently,
Mayor Rawlings served as Managing Partner of CIC Partners, where he provided business
counsel and capital, helping to grow small and mid-sized businesses in Dallas, and across the
United States. In addition to running two of the region’s biggest companies, he also found
time to fall in love and raise a family in Dallas. He and his wife Micki live in North Dallas,
and their two children, Michelle and Gunnar also live in Dallas. Join him at 11:00am in the
Theater. This is a special Marketing/Lifestyles event. There will be outside guests. Seats
are limited, so please reserve yours by calling Erika in the Lifestyles at 214-623-6106.
Note: A special thank you to Virginia Dykes, a close friend to the Mayor and his wife, for gra-
ciously asking them, and to the Mayor and Mrs. Rawlings for accepting.
February 9 - UTD Good Neighbors Program Speaker:

Jeffrey Martin received his
PhD in 2006 from the Uni-

faculty in the School of Be-
havioral and Brain Sciences.
Dr. Martin is a Clinical Associate Professor in
the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program and
serves as the Head of Audiology at the UTD Cal-
lier Center for Communication Disorders. His
research focuses on the behavioral and electro-
physiological study of individuals with listening-
related problems believed to arise from difficul-
ties in how the brain processes information. Past
research studies by Dr. Martin and colleagues
focusing on the complexities of central auditory
assessment and diagnosis have been recognized
by the Hearing Journal (2005, 2007) as being one
of the top peer-reviewed research articles appear-
ing in the hearing science and audiology litera-
ture. More recent research activities have focused
on the development of different behavioral test
paradigms to be used in diagnosis, particularly
the electrophysiological assessment of dichotic
listening function. Dr. Martin serves as a co-
investigator on a clinical trial evaluating the use
of vagus nerve stimulation for the treatment of
tinnitus. Meet him at 2:30pm in the Theater.

February 4 - Movie Outing: “American Sniper” (2015) Rated R, 2hrs 14min

SEAL, is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy
saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the
nickname "Legend." However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on
his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on
the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world. Despite the
danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Kyle serves through four harrowing tours of duty in
Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to "leave no one behind." Nominated for 6 Academy
Awards. Showtimes are not available at the this time. Please sign up with the Concierge if you are interested.

February 25 - Bridwell Library at SMU
The Prothro Collection consists of nearly 500 Bibles from eight centuries, beginning with a hand-
somely illuminated manuscript of St. Jerome’s Latin Bible, written at Paris c. 1250, and an important
manuscript of John Wycliffe’s late fourteenth-century translation of the New Testament into Middle
English. The fifteenth-century transformation of the Bible, and of reading in general, is represented
by a single leaf from Gutenberg’s first printed Bible (c. 1455) and ten other books printed with move-
able type before 1500. This exhibition highlights Bibles from the collection of Elizabeth Perkins Pro-
thro (1919–2009), who donated nearly five hundred volumes in more than fifty languages to Bridwell Library in
1996. One of SMU’s great benefactors, Mrs. Prothro was the daughter of Joe and Lois Perkins, whose generosity en-
dowed Perkins School of Theology. She graduated from SMU in 1939, one year after her marriage to Charles N. Pro-
thro (1918–2001) of Wichita Falls. In 1962, a Bridwell Library exhibition of fifteenth-century printing inspired her to
collect rare books. Her husband’s gift of six early volumes for their twenty-fifth anniversary on January 14, 1963 laid
the foundation of a remarkable collection that reflects Mrs. Prothro’s life-long love of scripture and a connoisseur’s
appreciation of historically significant editions. We leave at 1:30pm, no charge. Please call Concierge to sign up.

February 17 - Speaker: Michael Jenkins
Spend an evening with Michael Jen-
kins, Managing Director of Dallas
Summer Musicals! Michael Jenkins
has taken musical theater in Dallas to
a new level of excellence and popular-
ity, understanding that “show busi-
ness” is about being creative and put-
ting on the show but also running the
show as a “business.” Proof lies in the
fact that during his tenure, season sub-
scriptions for the Dallas Summer Musicals have gone
from 4,800 annually to 30,000, collectively. Attendance
approaches one million annually. More than 2,000 chil-
dren from all ethnic backgrounds are treated to their very
first live theater performance each year, courtesy of the
Dallas Summer Musicals. Jenkins authored a book, Play-
bills and Popcorn, which is a collection of stories from
travel, tourism and theater, and 100% of the sales go to
bring these children to the theater. In 2011, he was award-
ed the Samuel J. L’Hommedieu Award from The Broad-
way League for Outstanding Achievement in Presenter
Management. DSM is presently touring three productions
and has eleven new shows in development. At age four-
teen Jenkins started working as an usher at the Dallas
Summer Musicals. Charles R. Meeker, Jr., the original
producer, was his mentor at the Music Hall. Jenkins is
also president and founder of Leisure and Recreation Con-
cepts (LARC), a design and consulting firm for the enter-
tainment industry that includes theme parks, water parks,
special event productions, aquariums, and a variety of oth-
er attractions. Jenkins completed a two-year term as Pres-
ident of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, and
continues to serve on the Board of Directors. Jenkins re-
ceived the 2012 Humanitarian Award from the Oak Cliff
Lions Club. Please join him at 7:30pm in the Theater.
February 24 - Bud Dresser Band
Bud Dresser has been around the entertainment industry for many years, form-
ing bands with various musicians depending on the performance preference of
the audience. One of his fun and entertaining bands is Razzmajazz Trio. They
recently performed last September and everyone had a great time. Bud plays
the sousaphone, John Stutter on piano, and Scott Whitfield on Banjo. Playing
music from the 1890’s all the way through the middle of the last century, the
trio is the ideal band for everything from Ragtime to Jazz. Come, enjoy and
have a fun evening at 7:30pm in the Theater. Welcome Bud and his trio!
February 23 - Speaker: Timothy Binkley, Archivist

well Library, Perkins School of
Theology, Southern Methodist Uni-
versity will give a presentation on a
book he authored, A Higher Moral
and Spiritual Stand: Selected Writ-
ings of Milton Wright, published in
2009. Milton Wright (1828-1917), a United Brethren
in Christ missionary, pastor, educator, editor, and later
bishop, was widely known for his religious, political,
and social commentary during America's post-Civil
War era. Beginning with an introduction to Wright's
life, A Higher Moral and Spiritual Stand: Selected
Writings of Milton Wright presents 135 of Milton
Wright's Religious Telescope editorials written be-
tween 1869 and 1877. The editorials reflect the depth
of his thought and the breadth of his interests, includ-
ing denominational struggles and successes, the rela-
tionship between personal piety and public morality,
and concerns for both social order and social justice in
what he hoped would become a truly Christian society.
