Tiny-Server

o Used for less than 25 devices, or less than 25k flows/sec

o Deployment is targeted towards non-server installation (Laptops, Desktops, etc.)

o Specifications:

Small-Server

o Used for less than 100 Devices, or less than 100k flows/sec

LiveNX All-In-One Deployment The LiveNX All-in-One installation is deployed on Hyper-V Manager. Please follow the steps below to deploy

the All-In-One.

NOTE: The Open Virtualization format (OVF) installation has LiveNX integrated, there will NOT be a

separate software installation step. Download the OVF from http://liveaction.com/download/links to

the windows server where your Hyper-V Manager is located.

Pre-requisites:

1. Hyper-V Manager must be enabled on your windows server 2012 R2.

2. A Virtual switch is required to connect the LiveNX Virtual Machine to your network.

3. Remember to reserve a portion of physical memory for the windows operating system.

4. Please take a note of the number of disks that are associated with the different flavor of the OVF

you are installing

5. Please remember to have the IP address to assign to the OVF

Step 2:

1. Select the Server running Hyper-V

2. From the screen below select Action > New > Virtual Machine

3. Review the Image description and Click Next

4. Name the deployment Image and Click Next

5. Review the Image description and choose the Generation 1

NOTE:

a. Once the Virtual Machine is deployed you cannot change the Generation.

b. In the screen below, choose Generation 1 to deploy the VM. LiveNX does not operate under

Generation 2 .

6. Open the OVF file in a browser or text editor.

7. Look for the description “Memory size”.

NOTE: The below text is an example from the small OVA.

8. Review the image description and allocate the memory size in the dialog box below. Click Next

NOTE: Do not select “Use Dynamic Memory”.

9. Review the image description below and choose the Network Adaptor to use the Virtual Switch.

Click Next

10. Review the image description below, choose “Use an existing Virtual hard disk”.

Choose the destination location, Select the VHD file with the name disk1.vhd from the download file.

Click Next.

11. Review the Image description and click finish. Virtual Machine is ready. Please proceed to Step 3 for

installing LiveNX.

Step 3: Adding the remaining virtual disks

1. Select the LiveNX Virtual Machine. On the image below, Click Settings.

2. Select SCSI controller, then Select Hard Drive > Click Add

3. Choose the location that is currently not in use.

4. Choose the destination location, Select the VHD file with the name disk2.vhd from the

download. Click Apply then OK.

Step 4: 1. Depending on the deployment flavor, like Tiny OVF/ Small OVF/Medium OVF/Large OVF, the

number of disk files vary.

2. Please repeat Step 3 if the installation requires more virtual disk.

3. If you would like to expand the disks, follow the process in Step 4.1 below. If not, proceed to

Step 5

Step 4.1:

1. Select the LiveNX Virtual Machine. On the image below, Click Settings.

2. Select SCSI controller, then Select Hard Drive > Click Add

3. Select the Location that is not in use.

4. Under the Virtual Hard disk >Click on New and Proceed

5. Click Next and select the option depending on your requirement. Choose

the option depending on your requirement.

If you select the VHD option, the maximum limit is going to be 2TB

Note: In the below screen I selected the VHD option.

6. Click Next and select Fixed Size

7. Click Next. Name the new Disk. In the below screen, I named it as disk 5.

8. Click on browse and select the folder where the existing disks are

located.

Note: In the screenshot below, I have the existing disks saved in

C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\Tiny-Test

9. Click Next and select create a new blank virtual hard disk.

Since I selected the VHD option above I am allocating 2tb to my virtual

disk

10. Click Next and Finish to deploy the new VHD.

NOTE: Remember to use unique unused locations for each of the additional virtual disks.

Step 5: At this Point the OVF is ready. Right click on the device and click Start.

At this point sever is running. To get access to the server click Connect.

Step 6: Configure the Network

NOTE: LiveAction comes with the ability to pick up DHCP on a local network as well as utilizing a static IP

a. Static IP option

i. Recommended for Production Environments

ii. Configure Static IP and press [y] to save and apply the setting

b. DHCP Option

i. Recommended for Test Environments

ii. Configure DHCP Option

NOTE: DHCP Option will have the above fields filled in if there is a DHCP server to distribute

IPs

Once the network configuration portion is completed, the LiveNX Appliance will be reachable. The next steps

would be to log into the appliance and launch the LiveAction Server Management Console.

Starting up the All-In-One OVF The user must first launch the LiveNX Server console through the. By launching the LiveAction Server

Management Console, the user will be able configure LiveAction in order to start the appliance up.

Step 1: Use Option [3] to Login to the appliance

Step 2: This will launch the next screen. On that screen there will be two icons at the bottom of the screen, select

the Management Console.

Step 4 Once the Management Console is open, there are two options for Licensing.

Step 5 Turn on LiveAction by clicking on Manage > Start Service

Change Administrative Password (Recommended) Once you have LiveAction up and running, we recommend that you change the admin password.

Step 1 Click on the Terminal icon that is next to the Server Management Console Icon

Step 2 1. In the Terminal, type: passwd

2. Type the old password: changeme

3. Change the password to a new password

4. Issue backup on the command line to retain the new password and press [y] to

confirm

a. Note: backup should be used any time a system level change is made to the instance in

order to keep the changes persistent.

Step 3 To exit from the OVF desktop, click on an empty space on the desktop and select Exit.

Then, select Exit to Prompt.

Connecting to the LiveNX All-In-One OVF

Web Start Client Installation 1. Open a browser to https://<IP-of-LiveNX>:8092

a. Note: the https and the port number of 8092

2. Click on Launch LiveAction Client

3. Java Web Start will launch and allow the Client to run

a. The LiveAction Server will show the JRE version require to run

b. Please make sure that JRE is installed with the correct referenced version before proceeding

Logging into the LiveNX Java Client 1. Log into LiveAction

a. Username: admin

b. Password: admin

NOTE: Logging into the Java Client will force the administrative password to change. This is necessary in order to gain access to the WebUI

Logging into LiveNX WebUI 1. Open a browser to https://<IP-of-LiveNX>

2. Enter the IP address or hostname of the LiveNX Server

3. Leave the port number as 8093

Note: When the connection is made, the session will be redirected and an accept to the local certificate will

have to be done. Once you go through this process, a login page will be presented.

4. Log in using your LiveNX Client credentials

NOTE: The credentials now have been changed from the previous steps on the java client. These logins are

tied together

After logging in, the screenshot below represents an example of what LiveNX’s HTML5 webUI will display if

there are devices that have been configured in the LiveNX Client.
