Connecting the Experts, Informing the Patients

A recent scientific publication pointed out a significant data: 40% of the top sharedhealthcare web links contains text classified as “FAKE NEWS”. Even more, these fakenews have been shared more than 450,000 times (Waszak PM. et al. The spread ofmedical fake news in social media –The pilot quantitative study . Health Pol Tech2018;7(2):115-18). As always, the value of a meeting not only weighs in what it providesduring the congress days, rather in what remains afterwards. The v-WINter 2021meeting will bring together the most renowned Experts in the venous & lymphatic fieldfrom all the continents, so to create a consensus document on what a Phlebo-lymphology patient should receive as evidence-based information. In the previous v-WINter 2019, the focus was on Global Guidelines similarities and controversies, andthe scientific work is now published as a dedicated supplement in Phlebology Journal(https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31495256). v-WINter 2021 consensusdocument will be in the form of an evidence-based multi-lingual booklet, addressed tothe patients all around the world, so that they can enjoy an unbiased information onthe Phlebo-lymphology management state of the art. A dedicated website will be linkedto the booklet, so to allow a deeper information for both health and non-healthprofessionals.v-WINter 2021 project will include the 10thInternational Inter-university meeting,providing an entire ballroom dedicated to the proper instruction on all the venous &lymphatic topics, delivered by the same world experts. The scientific program includes asignificant amount of valuable venous & lymphatic research, together with a nourishedselection of free abstracts and a direct involvement of the youngest generations. Theevent will be held during EXPO Dubai, in a joint effort to promote projects & initiativesdedicated to public awareness of venous & lymphatic disorders. With this letter wewould like to invite all of you to be part of the teamwork dedicated to the creation ofthis as needed as beneficial for the patient document, while realizing also a top qualitymeeting for the benefit of the many involved health professionals from all around theworld. Looking forward for your feedback, suggestions and eventual needs, we remainat your full disposal.
