• TPC web pages refurbishing
• TPC and CERN Open Day
Y. Foka, TPC meeting Sardinia May 16-17
TPC web page restoration
group of Cuba took the task of web master in ALICE
• proposal of a new system that basically - replaces afs with our own server (arguments of disk space) - provide templates; easy to use (no html) and uniform look• use as much as possible the CERN Data Bases EDMS, PhotoDataBase, CDS (agenda) etc
what info do we want to keep and update in the TPC web page?
it should be useful info for working groups, auto maintaineda list of active web pages
my role: as long as somebody sends me email with subject“add to the TPC web page”I will do it but I do not want to run after people
I do not feel responsible for names missing from phone directories etc
TPC - Time Projection Chamber for ALICE
• TPC project organisation and contacts• Current status of the TPC project• TPC related meetings and documentation• TPC related web sites
ProposalMerge and simplify at least the first two (each project responsible for their people)• give name (email etc) of each project leader(s)• add the web page(s) related to each project

News on CERN Open Day Preparationand the TPC
• Outreach material expected from different projects• Beginning of June, specialist on communication and science at CERN• Outreach meeting to present her our projects: week 7th of June at CERN• Outreach meeting that she presents us her ideas: 24th of June at Colmar
• ALICE set-up animation: good progress, few things still missing• Cartoon story: realistic to finish by ALICE week• St. Genis event: organised (details next pages)
ALICE monopoli-like game delivered in english by Tiziano Virgili
Theater play ALICE cube; translated in english
Open Day: 16th of OctoberOfficial Day 19th of October
TPC contributionsideal: organise TPC exposition around the real TPC
is it possible??we will be careful…we just plan something like “inauguration” and breaking a bottle of champagne on the TPC…..
who is “we” ?? taking care of secure activities around the detector
all ideas welcomed but I would like to know sometime in advance
some proposals- detector pieces and photos to show sequence of construction- animation to show working principle- “active demo”, event display of test beam- TPC SlideShow- small presentations on “themes”??
needed: crews to prepare, install, baby sit and guidepls. let me and M. Tavlet know sometime in advance
St. Genis event
Contact(s) established to the responsible persons for cultural activitiesin the “communaute de commune” and St. Genis mairie
Planning of activities for the 16th of October and the period of 20th September-16th of October proposed and approved by the mairie.
Some activities already started
St. Genis event16th of October
16:00 plant tree: event by invitation (VIPS, journalists) at the presence of St. Genis Mayor and ALICE representatives
16:30 centre culturel Jean-Monnet: event by reservation foreseen for habitants of Pays de Gex (max 250 people) programm
• 16:30-17:30 presentation and public debate• 17:30-19:30 - visit of the ALICE cavern; small groups - exposition including children’s projects on “Big Bang and ALICE” - slide show of nice pictures with music - reception Strong interest and support by St. Genis mairie
St. Genis event20 Sep. – 3 Oct. The St. Genis Library is going to host an ALICE event- Wednesday 29 sep. simple lecture for small children “story-telling” based on ALICE cartoon- Saturday 2 oct. lecture for teenagers- exposition
4 -16 OctoberThe centre Jean-Monet will host for two weeks the exposition we plan to have for the 16th of OctoberTheme : Heavy Ion experiments (at CERN?), past and future• 20 years Heavy Ion Experiments at CERN SPS• 10 years ALICE NA35/NA49, CERES, WA98 etc ??? current status at RHIC ??? therapy at GSIfrom Pestov to MRPCs, cosmophone from mexicans, extreme computing
Support by St. Genis mairie• parking space and 2 navettes (of 9 sits)• small tents if we need them• financing reception• installations for exposition, projection etc. at centre Jean-Monnet (possibly at Point2 if need be)• help with list of VIPS, invitation, courier to schools etc• publicity - announcement to the local news paper (delivered to mailboxes) - TV emission, Pays de Gex, Geneva, Haute Savoie (DONE 12 May)
St. Genis event
Posters and invitations for the event are being preparedby the art class of Mara Sandoval in Ecole International of Geneva The students were initiate to the ALICE wonderland
by Andres Sandoval presentation on 7th May.
School PresentationsThe idea is to present Heavy Ion Physics and ALICE to school childrenof all agesAND ask them to “react” by creating a project (drawings etc) which is going to be exposed to centre Jean Monnet
- Ecole International, art class 7th May (DONE)- College St. Genis, 125 students, physics class 9, 10 June (Y. Schutz)- Ecole primaire Prevessin, 20 children 18 June (M. Tavlet)- German school in progress (C. Fabjan)
??? Others ??? Think of your neigbourhood or your children’s schools!!
