BACKGROUND• The InaTEWS has been in operation since

2008 Warning : Potential Tsunami Earthquake Information : No Potential

Tsunami

• Criteria : Magnitude > 7.0 ; Depth < 100 km; Located : in the sea

• Magnitude is not good indicator for Tsunami-genic Earthquake.

• Madlazim developed an aplication to evaluate the earthquake generating Tsunami by analizing the waveform Joko Tingkir

OUTPUT SEISCOMP-3

SEISCOMP-3 is an automatic system to determine the parameters of an earthquake and the tsunami warning.

Input : waveform data stream from the stations

Output : 1. Earthquake parameter (Origin time, Lat, Lon, Depth and the Magnitude)

2. Map showing the location of the earthquake3. Warning (potential or NOT potential generating tsunami)

Page 6: In the 3 rd International Symposium on Earthquake and Disaster Mitigation (ISEDM)

WARNING OR INFORMATION

IF : NOT POTENTIAL GENERATING TSUNAMI then EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION will be disseminated (Mag, OT, Lat, Lon, Depth, distance from a reference point)

IF : POTENTIAL GENERATING TSUNAMI then 1. TRIGER DSS to produce the warning segment2. Collect and update the sea level monitoring

“JOKO TINGKIR”

Madlazim :A software to calculate parameters as indicator of earthquake generating tsunami.

The Parameters are : Tdur (Rupture duration), Td (Time Dominant), T50EX, and the Products (Tdur*Td, T50EX*Td)

Tdur is associate/equivalent with the length of the rupture zoneTd is associated/equivalent with the width of the rupture zoneT50EX is associate/equivalent with the length of the rupture zone (better estimate than Tdur)The products are associate with the area of the rupture zone Strength Scale of the EQ source

THE PARAMETERS

• Td (Dominant Period) is the peak of time

domain (τc)

(τc) = 2π ʃ ʋ2 (t) dt /ʃ ὐ2 (t) dt

• T50EX (T50 Exceeding) is the ratio between the Rms of the amplitude rupture duration for 50-60 seconds and the Rms of those for 0-25 seconds

(Wu and Kanamori, 2005;Lomax and Michelini, 2011)

Page 10: In the 3 rd International Symposium on Earthquake and Disaster Mitigation (ISEDM)

CALCULATION OF THE PARAMETERS

• T(dur), T(dom) and T50EX are calculated for the first minute of P wave recorded in the station.

• Calculation using a aplication software developed using BASH programing language in the Linux

• Compilation of the seismogram is using SeisGram2K

• Calculation is done in the off line mode

SUMMARY• “JOKO TINGKIR” has been implemented in the real

time data flow within the InaTEWS Network for validation purpose

• Preliminary result for showing that 96.5 % of 171 event tested are consistent with the criteria set for the validation test.

• The criteria used in this validation test are Td*T50Ex > 10 and Td*Tdur > 650 for earthquake generating tsunami.

• The total time used to get the result is about 4 minutes, if the Trigger taken from automatic location from InaTEWS
