Core Component A – “The Organization’s mission documents are clear and articulate publicly the organization’s

commitments.”

The evolution of Kuyper College’s mission can be traced through the Institutional Journal, authored by President Nicholas V. Kroeze, as a part of the most recent Long-Range and Strategic Plan. In this journal, the president traces the College’s evolution from its origins as an institute intending to train lay people and missionaries to teach about the Bible and evangelize, to a College that focused more on professional missionary and church leadership preparation, to its current stats as a “ministry-focused leadership institution.” Throughout these changes, the core mission of Kuyper College has remained: preparing its students to serve Christ’s church and his world. A summary account of this evolution is found in “Appendix III: Institutional Journal,” authored by President Kroeze, of the current Long-Range & Strategic Plan 2010-2020. All faculty and staff have a firm grasp of the College’s mission statement, showing that this mission is the core and the center of everything done at the College. At a very basic level, the mission is made highly visible in the life of the community by its inclusion in many publications: the College’s web profile page, the Catalog (2012-2013) near the list of majors (5) and alongside the “Core Values of the College” (4). The Catalog is a document which is visible to both internal and external audiences; it is on the website, available to anyone. The mission is also on the back of all business cards, carried by faculty and staff, making the mission visible not only to the card holder but also to the recipient. The mission was included on the cover, facing page, and Section 1.2 of the Kuyper College Faculty Handbook (2009 ed.) and on the front page of the Kuyper College Employee Handbook (2006 ed.). The social work program made it visible to its accreditors at the Council of Social Work Educators (CSWE) on the fourth page of its “Self-Study Report for Reaffirmation” (the Bachelor of Social Work reaccreditation report). For donors, faculty, staff, alumni and others, the mission is located on the front cover of The Kuyper College News. (e.g., the special 70th anniversary edition).
