In The Hoop Wallet

This easy to create wallet is done in two hoop-

ings and is created entirely in the hoop. The on-

ly bit of stitching to do is to close the opening

which is used to turn the wallet right side out

and to sew on a press stud fastener.

This finished measurements of this wallet when

closed is 5 6/8 inch wide and 3 3/4 inches high.

There is a card holder on the left side that holds

4 loyalty or bank cards and a pocket on the right

side for bank notes.

The outer fabric of the wallet is embroidered.

Use colors of your choice. The wallet outside is

made using a light faux suede fabric and the

inner is made using quilters cotton.

Done for the 6” x 10” hoop

Load the fabric pattern onto your embroidery machine. Hoop

a layer of cutaway stabilizer.

Cute a piece of faux suede approx. 8” x 14”. Spray the stabi-

lizer with the Madeira temporary adhesive spray. Place the

faux suede onto the stabilizer and smooth into place.

Position your design to fit the fabric if you are using a larger

hoop. Trace the design to be sure the embroidery will fit on-

to the fabric leaving some fabric around the design. When

you are satisfied, stitch the design.

Trim off excess fabric and stabilizer from the design leaving

a half inch around the design.

Load the wallet design onto your embroidery machine. Hoop a

layer of cut away stabilizer.

Use one color throughout the design. I used a dark color for

the next step so it would show on the photo. Otherwise, I used

white thread throughout the rest of the design.

Stitch the first color change onto the stabilizer. This is a die

line for the placement of the quilters cotton.

Spray the stabilizer with Madeira temporary adhesive spray.

Cut a piece of quilters cotton 8”x12” and place it over the die

line. Smooth into place.

Stitch the next 2 color changes. These will hold the quilters

cotton into place as well as mark where to place the pocket.

Cut a piece of quilters cotton 7” x 6 1/2”

Fold it in half so you have a piece that measures 3 1/2” x 6

1/2”. Press the fold flat. I used a steam iron for this as I wanted

a really neat edge.

Place the pocket onto the die pocket die line. The open side of

the pocket must sit on the die line. Use a little Madeira spray if

necessary to hold the pocket in place.

Stitch the next color change. This will hold the pocket in

place.

Stitch the next color change. This will be the decorative satin

stitch edge that finishes the open edges of the pocket.

Now for the card holder. Cut a piece of quilters cotton 4 1/2” x

20 1/2”

Using a fabric marker, mark the following measurements:

3 1/2”, 1 1/2”, 2 1/2”, 1 1/2”, 2 1/2”, 1 1/2”, 2 1/2”, 1 1/2”,

3 1/2”

Fold the fabric along these markings to create pleats.

This creates the card holder. Press all the folds in place using a

steam iron.

Stitch the next color change. This is the die line for the card

holder. Spray the die line area with Madeira temporary adhe-

sive spray. Place the folded fabric onto the die line and smooth

into place.

Stitch the next color change. This will hold the card holder in

place. You may need to trim the fabric for the card holder

where the white decorative satin stitch is.

Stitch the next color. This adds the second decorative satin

stitch. This one finished off the edge for the card holder.

Now place the embroidered fabric piece onto the wallet design

in the hoop. Wrong side of the embroidered fabric piece facing

up. I used a light spray of Madeira spray to hold it in place. Be

sure to match up the embroidered fabric with the wallet stitch-

ing line.

Stitch the last color change.

Trim the excess fabric from around the design leaving 1/2”

seam. Snip the seam allowances on the curved parts f the de-

sign and the corners being careful not to cut the stitching.

Turn the wallet right side out through the opening. Sew the

opening closed with a bit of whip stitch. Fold the wallet. Final-

ly, sew on a fastener such as a press stud.
