Duet. 30:15-19 (Living Bible)

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live!

20 ”Choose to love the LORD your God and to obey him and commit yourself to him, for he is your life. Then you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

King Ahab

Jezebel – harlot – idolater

Good - Ahab

• He was hostile to Elija’s words but obeyed them

• He could gather people together (1 Kings 18:19)

• Eating and Drinking (1 Kings 18:41)

• Preparing his chariot (1 Kings 18:44)

• He complies with am unnamed prophet (1 Kings 20:13,28)

• He repented when faced with God’s wrath (1 Kings 21:20-29)

Bad - Ahab

• Submissive to God and prophet but also submits to anyone who confronts him regardless of politics or moral standards

• He is silent to Jezebel’s killing of God’s prophets (1 Kings 18:4)

• He fails to speak up on Jezebel’s thread to Elijah’s life (1 Kings 19:2)

• He ascedes to an enemy for mercy against warning of a prophet (1 Kings 20:35-43)

Bad - Ahab• The incident with Naboth is evidence of Ahab’s inconsistency

Ahab wants Naboth’s land which is the latter’s inheritance

Sale of which is forbidden outside family

He is not concerned hoe Jezebel will give him the vineyard

He is not interested in how Naboth dies

• His repentance does not rehabilitate him (1 Kings 21:27)

• He is an opportunist who will follow whoever leads him, whether good or bad

• He is finally confronted with a clear decisive choice in the battle, to follow God or inclination. He chooses badly and dies

Choices we should make

Choose Faith – Not Fear

Choose be a Servant not a Slave

Choose to Heal not to Hurt

Choose to Worship not to Worry

God Gave Us The Gift Of Choice

It’s a wonderful gift

God gave it to Adam and Eve in the garden. It is intelligent, thoughtful choice--decision-making--that separates us from the rest of God’s creation

A very precious gift from our Creator. God told them, But the LORD God gave him this warning: "You may freely eat any fruit in the garden Genesis 2:16

So the Lord God formed from the soil every kind of animal and bird. He brought them to Adam to see what he would call them, and Adam chose a name for each one. Genesis 2:19

And of course God has given the gift of choice to you and me also

Life is full of choices

Life is full of choices

You and I make hundreds of them everyday. Some of our decisions are fairly insignificant

And then there are the choices that impact our lives greatly-choices we live and die with

• Who am I going to marry

• Where will I live

Major choices for believers

• Will I live a life of obedience or self-will

• Will I do life God’s way or my way

• Will I follow my fleshly nature or the Holy Spirit

• Will I commit to spiritual growth or spiritual malaise

The Chosen’s Choice

• All choices has consequences

• Some are temporary some are permanent

• Some are reversible some are not

• Some has a second change some are not

• Some lead to life some to death

• Some remain uncertain and only time will tell
