IN THE MIND OF A SHOOTER
-AARTI RANA
Air Pistol Shooter
Maharashtra
OBJECTIVE
• This ppt gives an overview of a match and the importance of preparation for successful results.
BACKGROUND
• Air Weapon Shooting is more of a mental game with the support of techniques and physical strength.
• For around 6 months a shooter builds his endurance, physical strength and goes through consistent and regular practice.
• After basic and advance training, the shooter tests himself through various novice, state, zonal, pre national and national level competitions.
• The shooters who are capable enough to handle the pressure at these levels rise as a successful shooter.
IMPORTANT MATCHES
• State Level Matches- Maharashtra Air Weapon Championships, Capt Eizikel,
• Zone Level- West zone, North Zone, South Zone so on so forth
• Pre National: Gun for Glory Championship, SportsKraft Competition, G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship
• Nationals: National Shooting Championship Competitions
PRE PREPARATION
• AS my Coach says,” The match preparation doesn’t start a few hours before the match but it starts 24 hours before any match.
• Pre-Preparation requires complete relaxation of mind and body
• Minimum 8 hours of sleep
• Regular water intake and no junk or outside food
• Limited or no use of cell phones
• Reflection of previous successful matches and introspection
TIPS FOR HANDLING PERFORMANCE PRESSURE
• It is advised to reach the range at least half an hour before the match is about to begin.
• This helps relax some of the match pressure building up.
• Checking of equipment, kit and weapon beforehand avoids last minute panic.
• Deep breathing helps in cutting off the unnecessary distractions. It also cools the nerves and helps gain better self control
• More than performing, if the shooter focusses in executing his practice, the performance pressure can easily be tackled
FINISH LINE
• Once the Match starts, it’s a race with various check points
• The shooter needs to keep calm and work on the lines of what he has practiced.
• He also has to ensure that his shots are evenly spaced out to finish within the given time frame.
• He has to have the power to take charge in situations when his shots are not going according to his plan.
• The brain is constantly working on all these things along with delivering perfect hand eye co-ordination. It needs some break in between long stretches.
• All these when handled accurately will lead to only success.
