Channeling Creativity

ccounting for top 1% of the world’s cotton production, American-grown Pima cotton has always been considered a luxury in-

gredient and that story has been amplified through Supima’s ongoing efforts to partner with the best brands worldwide.

From experiential marketing initiatives to fostering new and upcoming designers, Supima and its brand partners are continuously striving to tell the premium cotton’s unique story in creative and en-gaging ways. Ultimately in this month’s newsletter you will see what some of our brand partners are doing to connect with their customers.

We also know how important it is to give back. Last month the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association, together with Supima, saw an opportunity to support our Veterans with Califor-nia Senator Toni Atkins’ Stand Down For Veterans program. It was a humbling experience to be part of such a profound initiative.

We are excited about the numerous marketing initiatives underway from our brand partners, and as we look forward to fall you will see many of our own marketing programs put into place.

When the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association (CCGGA) heard about Senate Pro Temp Toni Atkins’ annual Stand Down event support-ing military veterans in San Diego, CA, they saw a unique opportunity for the California cotton industry to be a part of something special. Senator Atkin’s Stand Down event offers much needed support including food, clothing, health screenings and other services to homeless veterans. With one of the most requested items being socks, CCGGA knew that by tapping into their network of cotton growers, the fiber industry could help support a great cause. With the help of Supima and Harris & Covington Hosiery Mills, CCGGA was able to donate 1,000 pairs of American-grown Pima cotton socks that will be distribut-ed at San Diego’s 31st Annual Stand Down event taking place June 29-July 1.For more information on how you can make a difference visit http://vvsd.net/standdown/

In 2003, Sam and Kacie Malouf set out to create a luxury bedding company without the exorbitant prices typically associated with premium bedding and accessories. Fifteen years and numerous accolades later, Malouf has transformed the bedding industry with its innovative designs, attention to detail and quality products. Supima recently sat down with the founders of Malouf bedding to gain insight in their approach to crafting premium bedding and accessories and why it’s important to foster a sense of community and giving throughout the organization.

Attainable Luxury

What is Malouf’s approach to changing the status quo of the bed-ding market?

We founded Malouf after our own personal quest to find better sleep-ing solutions for ourselves. We have grown with this same desire to pro-vide better sleeping solutions for consumers across the entire country who are looking for quality yet affordable options. We are continuously seeking to improve the quality of sleep for all our customers as evi-denced by our company purpose “To unite our compassion and ambi-tion to positively impact how people sleep, work, and help each other”.

What are some of the differentiating points of Malouf compared to other bedding brands?

At Malouf we make a point to pay attention to detail. We seek to pro-vide superior products that have attractive packaging. We offer industry leading shipping and logistics. And we take great pride in our customer service.

We also believe in making a positive impact in our community. That is why we started the Malouf Foundation, with a mission to be a force for hope and freedom for all children across the world. As a company we donate time and funding to help bring an end to human sex trafficking.

Does Malouf have any new products it’s introducing for the up-coming season?

Yes, we are launching a new luxurious down pillow later this month at the Las Vegas Summer Market. We are calling this pillow the Triple-Layer™ Down Pillow. It features a triple layer construction that provides a soft top and bottom layer with a supportive inner core. This pillow

is made with 100% natural materials to round out our complete product offering.

How long has Malouf been working with Supima cotton?

We have been working with Supima for over three years now. We value our partnership and the high quality Supima cotton fabrics have and incorporated into our Woven Supima® Premium cotton sheets line.

What are some of the benefits to using Supima in bedding?Luxury, quality and craftsmanship are the benchmarks of American-

grown, extra-long staple Supima cotton. This creates a perfect pairing between Malouf sleep products and Supima cotton. Our Woven Su-pima Sheets provide users with a softer, more vibrantly colored and exceptionally pill resistant bed linen. Ultimately using Supima cotton in bedding feels heavenly looks beautiful and outperforms other cottons.

How does Malouf promote and educate consumers about quali-ties of Supima cotton?

We are currently running a promotion for retail partners called the Supima Runway Getaway. This is a contest for retail partners to win the trip of a lifetime to New York City to attend the Supima Design Competition during New York Fashion Week. We are using this pro-motion to create more excitement for retail partners to carry this line on their shelves. In addition to the VIP tickets to the SDC, Malouf will provide an all expense paid trip to NYC for the winner and a guest.

Beyond the Supima Runway Getaway, we also provide retail part-ners with product video trainings and printable point of purchase mer-chandising to put in their stores to better educate consumers to the benefits of Supima cotton.

You recently visited a Supima farm during the cotton harvest, were you surprised by anything during your visit?

We were surprised by the amount of knowledge everyone we talked with had about the process and the quality of the product they were producing. It inspired us to better tell this story to end consumers.

What impressed you the most about the farm?We were impressed with the magnitude of what is involved with har-

vesting cotton. This is quite the process and we were amazed by all the technology behind growing and harvesting the best cotton in the world.

Did you learn anything new about Supima cotton?Learning that Supima cotton represents the top 1% of cotton in the

world is an amazing thing. It is nice to have a branded raw material that can be traced back to its origin. Consumers can know they are getting the best materials we have to offer.

Once again, famed women’s wear designer, Bibhu Mohapatra is working with each finalist, guiding them through the process of designing their Supima collections. This year’s design com-petition will be held during New York fashion week on September 6 at Pier 59 where the winner of the 11th annual SDC will be announced. This year’s winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize, international media coverage and the opportunity to showcase their winning collection during an exclusive reception in Paris, France during Paris fashion week.

Although much work has been going on

behind the scenes for months, the fittings, held in New York, included all seven final-ists, select media partners, Supima man-agement and mentor, Bibhu Mohapatra, all together for the first time. The annual fittings have become a tradition of sorts in announcing the upcoming SDC program and introducing the finalists to the world.
