FILM LEADERS LOBBY FOR SUPPORT

The Florida State Capitol welcomed repre-

sentatives of Florida‟s film and entertainment

industry to the new Legislative Film, Enter-

tainment and Television Caucus. On hand

were Jeffrey Donovan, star of the televi-

sion show Burn Notice; Lucia Fishburne,

Florida‟s Film Commissioner; and several film

industry advocates. The group came to Tal-

lahassee to lobby for more state incentives

and promote the importance of the film/entertainment industry

to Florida‟s economy.

“This industry is vital to Florida‟s economic health and it is en-

couraging to see lawmakers recognize the industry‟s economic

impact," said Fishburne. The estimated economic impact of the

Florida film and entertainment industry grew from nearly $27

billion in 2003 to $29.2 billion in 2007 and was responsible for

over 207,000 jobs in Florida, generating nearly half a billion dollars

in tax revenues annually, according to the

Florida State Film Office.

LOCATION SPOTLIGHT: DUBOIS PARK IN JUPITER

DuBois Park located in the heart of Jupiter, is an

ideal beach location for productions. DuBois is situ-

ated next to a jetty and has over 1,200 feet of beach

frontage, with 100 feet being guarded, along a quiet

lagoon. Considered a “Mother‟s Beach” because of its

shallow, calm water, the park boasts a variety of ac-

tivities for visitors including swimming. Productions

needing talent to fish or surf can do so outside the guarded beach area. Small picnic areas with

grills are scattered around the beach with views of the Jupiter Lighthouse, while a larger picnic pavilion can be reserved and util-

ized as a filming location or a staging area. A playground area has a play structure for children ages 5-12 years. Restrooms and out-

door showers are also located within the park.

Also within the park is the DuBois Pioneer Home – National Register of Historical Places. The shingle-style home was built

in 1898, and is one of the oldest houses in Palm Beach County. Architecturally, the DuBois Home is typical of many houses built

along the New Jersey shore in the latter part of the 19th century. The house is constructed of Florida pine and in its day had cypress

shingles, which were later replaced with cedar. The interior walls are made of pine, fastened tongue in groove, and set on the diago-

nal for added strength during hurricanes. The interior walls were unpainted. The floor boards, in

accordance with the fashion of the day, were painted red. There was a machine made rug in the liv-

ing room and homemade rugs elsewhere. A large parking

area is available for crew and production vehicles.

Some of the productions that have utilized DuBois Park

include the feature film Turkles, the Celine Dion music

video A New Day Has Come and a photo shoot for

Abercrombie & Fitch. For more info call 561.233.1000.
