Dear Mercer Parents/Guardians,

Now that we have settled into our New Year’s resolutions,

we begin the second semester at Mercer looking ahead to

many activities as well as preparations for the next school

year.

February kicks off with a combination band and strings

concert for 6th and 7th grade students at Champe at 7:00

PM. On Friday, February 7th, the Loudoun County

Sheriff’s Office will conduct an internet safety presentation

to all of the students. If you get a chance to attend one of

the parent workshops, I highly recommend it.

Additionally, report cards will now be distributed on

February 7th. Mercer will host its Rising 6th Grade Parent

Night on February 10th, while Champe HS will host

Accelerated Curriculum Night on March 4th. The 8th grade

band will perform the following week at Champe on

February 20th, and the SCA will host its annual dance for

the students on Friday, February 28th, 3:30 – 5:00 PM.

Look for more information in regards to these and other

events, including the Mercer Spring Fundraiser that begins

on February 21st, on the Mercer Homepage or Facebook

Page. Additionally, please be sure to sign-up for the

ConnectEd messages which are sent out every Sunday via

email.

As mentioned previously, February is the month in which

preparations begin for the next school year. Students will

be meeting with the school counselors to begin making

their course selections. Working closely with both feeder

elementary and Champe school counselors, your son/

daughter will choose classes that will challenge him/her to

work towards goals you establish. Look for more

information to come home as it gets distributed by the

school counselors at Mercer, as well as on the Mercer

Homepage.

Preparations for the next school year will also begin to

occur on the Mercer building. Tentatively, the work on the

new addition will begin sometime in mid-February with the

construction of egress tunnels at the end of each house to

ensure safe evacuation routes for staff and students. Once

these tunnels are in place and the weather cooperates, the

construction of the remainder of the project will begin.

Continuing along the lines of preparing for next year,

Mercer would also like to get your feedback on the

implementation of its programs. The first opportunity is

through a survey that will be open the month of February.

Click on the link below, or find the survey on the Mercer

Homepage:

https://www.research.net/s/MMSParent3LL88DT

In addition, Mercer is looking for feedback on the School

Improvement Plan (SIP). The SIP will be posted to the

Mercer Homepage on March 1st. Mark your calendars for

the next PTA meeting on March 11th, where the SIP will be

presented to parents with an opportunity to provide

feedback for interventions.

Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate and February will

provide a more consistent school pattern. Regardless, stay

warm and hope to see you at the many events at Mercer.
