TRANSCRIPT
Friends, I recently had the honor of being ‘Pastor for the Day’ at the Iowa Statehouse. As I had the opportunity to share about in our church service a couple weeks ago, this honor included opening both sessions of the House and Senate on the Tuesday after the Iowa Caucuses. Following the times of prayer, I decided to take a tour of the capital and had an excellent tour guide give me some insights about the history and details concerning the Capital Building. It was very interesting to me. I then had the special honor of seeing even further behind the scenes when the congressman who had invited me to pray sent me with his clerk up to the very top where the regular tours do not go. I got to see the foundational pieces to the dome, the bricks that are covered on the outside with gold leaf as well as wiring con-duets that provide power to the lights inside and out of the dome. I got to go outside on a walkway outside at the top of the capital, above the golden dome. It was amazing to see. I got to thinking about some of the amazing things God has for each of us. He desires us to be a light to the darkened world, for His love and glory to shine through us! In the same way the capital has some wonders and the stability of them is based on the building materials, there must be foundational truths about our faith. We need the deep love of Christ within us if He is going to overflow out of us. We need to have God as our Savior and King if we are going to shine with His hope into this darkened world. May we give God our entire heart, holding nothing back. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 7-2:6 NIV Let’s not merely be something that was shiny or interesting for a while, let’s ask God to build a deep faith within us that deeply impacts our communities and world for Him. Let’s remember some of the basic building blocks, faith, hope, love, meeting together for worship, personal time of studying God’s word, personal and corporate prayer. Let’s build that good life foundation on Him.
In Christ, Pastor Alan
