TRANSCRIPT
The women came to the tomb with saddened hearts that Easter morning. It
was all over. Jesus was dead. There was nothing left to do but this final labor
of love, an anointing of His body with spices and perfumes. Very early on
that Sunday morning, they went to the tomb.
They had some problems that day. They needed help to roll away the
stone from the entrance to the tomb; for it was very large. But God was
ahead of them. They learned that Easter morning that our God is a God who
takes care of large problems. One of His angels had rolled away the stone.
He announced, “He is Risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid
Him.”
But, more importantly, He rolled away the stone of despair, sin, defeat
and death. Jesus IS alive. He IS raised from the dead to live and reign forever
and ever. For those women, and for us, the message of the angel means eve-
rything is changed. Jesus is alive!
In the Easter victory, we find a Lord who shows that hope is stronger than
despair, forgiveness stronger than guilt, love stronger than hate, good strong-
er than evil, and life stronger than death. All this is true only in Christ.
He is risen! Everything is changed! He is risen indeed!
Lord Jesus, risen Lord; all glory, laud and honor be unto You.
Christ is Risen!

Scrip Program
April scrip orders are due by 9 am on the 6th and 20th. Scrip fundraising is a no-selling program that enables families to
raise money for Zion Lutheran School. Scrip is just another way to
pay for everyday purchases using gift cards instead of cash, checks
and credit cards. Turn everyday purchases into profit! You purchase
gift cards at face value, and we order them at a reduced price. The
difference is an instant rebate for Zion! It’s really that simple!
There are over 300 of the country’s largest restaurants and stores to

30-hour famine is a way to grow closer to God and each
other as we fast for 30 hours! There will be tons of
activities done with “tribes” and community service
projects such as collecting food for T.A.P. Let’s open our
students’ eyes to the truth about global hunger, and help
them learn what God wants us all to do about it. We are
also looking for volunteers to be small group leaders and
drivers. If you would like to participate or volunteer, call
Kim Rausch at 605-377-4259 or Jessica Long

Our journey through Lent is almost over. After celebrating our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday with a new
anthem, choir’s next musical offering is on Maundy Thursday. From our files, “The Upper Room” tells the account of
Christ meeting with His disciples and instituting the Lord’s Supper. It’s a modern composition with flowing melody and
words taken from Scripture...”This bread is my body broken for you. This cup is my blood which is shed for you.” Easter morning, choir sings at all three worship services - 6:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We have a brand new an-
them that is a new take on a favorite hymn. “He is Risen, Alleluia” is actually “Christ the Lord is Risen Today”, with a
different rhythm, but is still the same lyrically and musically. Incorporated with the hymn is “Hear the Bells Ringing”
which is a perfect fit. We’re excited to present this. The last Sunday of the month, April 26, is confirmation Sunday. In addition to the youth confirmand 10:30 service, the
current adult class will be confirmed at the 8 a.m. service. Choir will be singing a favorite from our files, “Borning Cry”.
The song tells the story of a Christian’s life - from baptism to when our life on this earth ends:
“I was there to hear your borning cry, I’ll be there when you are old.
I rejoiced the day you were baptized, to see your life unfold.
When you heard the wonder of the Word, I was there to cheer you on.
You were raised to praise the living Lord, to whom you now belong.”
This Sunday will be the last time choir sings this season. I want to thank all of the members for their dedication the past
eight months. We take the summer off, but come September, rehearsals will resume. If God has blessed you with a
singing voice, please join us next fall!

MY TYSON CHAPLAINCY AT THE PLANT
IN DENISON: Tyson celebrated their annual banquet with awards for long term
workers. The highlight was Ron Fink being honored for 53 years
of service. We learned that no other Tyson worker in all the
national beef or pork plants has worked as long. In the picture
above left, he is congratulated by the plant manager and
management staff. At above right, he is shown with his wife, Deb.
Ron is a quiet, faithful worker and a great role model to our
workers. Ron and wife Deb are members of Zion in Denison, and
Deb is the Director of Pre-School at Zion, Manning. Good job
Ron! God bless and keep all of our hard-working employees.
They are the life-blood of this work to provide food for the world.

PLEASE PRAY:
For the blessings of the Open House at Zion Lutheran School, in which a
number of new Hispanic families were enrolled. For growth in faith during
the Lenten season and Holy Week. For our Spring Evangelistic Campaign to
reach the Denison Hispanic community. For new families that are attending
our church, that they may continue to grow and serve the Lord with us. For
my work as a Chaplain at Tyson and for opportunities to share the Gospel in
the workplace. In thanksgiving for the mission hearts of the many individuals
and congregations of the Iowa District West who monthly support the Lord’s
work among Hispanic immigrants in Denison and in our other 3 Hispanic
missions.

Sunday School Teachers Needed!
Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church

teachers. We meet Sundays from

necessary! Please prayerfully
consider this mission opportunity.

(Above): THE CRAWFORD COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE group
held a special baby shower last month for “Baby
Boutique.” Baby Boutique is a service organization to promote
healthy children and wellness through education and medical
care for prenatal and children up to 3 years old. The speaker was
Mary Andersen, who shared the story of her brother disabled
after a car accident. She and her family cared for him for almost
30 years. I am working to add a Hispanic group to educate the
Hispanic community on life concerns.
(At left): Elbert the Birthday Boy:
Last month, Elbert Perez celebrated his 10th birthday.
His is pictured with his mother, Mayra, and his
godfather, Antonio. Elbert was the first baby baptized
in our Hispanic mission. He is now in the 4th grade at
Zion Lutheran School, and an eager acolyte in our
Amigos en Cristo Lutheran Church. I often encourage
him to consider becoming a pastor in the future. Elbert
has a very supportive extended family that cares for
him. With church, school and family, Elbert is blessed
and has a great future ahead of him. We pray to be
able to serve other children like Elbert in the Denison
community.
The Lenten season has begun: The children pictured above attended our
Ash Wednesday service. For Hispanics, the Lent season is a controversial time.
Those from a family tradition in the Roman Catholic church look forward to it.
But those who come from an “evangelical” background reject this season as too
“Catholic.” In our new church, we have 28 communicant members and 50
baptized members. We focus on Christ crucified and His mission of the free
gift of salvation for all. We seek to make friends in the community who have
many false ideas about a church with the name “Lutheran.” We seek to be a
teaching church by inviting the community to read and study the Bible for
themselves. Also, we partner with Zion Lutheran School to help teach our
children. We offer classes in English, citizenship preparation, and food distri-
bution to needy families in partnership with Our Savior in Denison and other
churches.
