Friends, I was watching a Jr. High football game the other night and I noticed that the linemen were not setting up in their stance the way we were instructed way back when I used to play. I used to be reasonably quick off the ball and have claimed I was as fast as anybody on our team. . . for the first five yards. Truthfully, I can’t ever remember the coaches holding a five- yard race, but I do remember having many basic techniques drilled into my teammates and myself. No matter where you played along the line, you were to be balanced and ready to fire-off when the ball was hiked. Sometimes the stances of today look more like someone who is about to stand upright than to fire off. Now I know that rules and techniques have changed over the years, so the old way might not still be the most effective way, but it was effective in my day. It makes me ponder upon what our spiritual stances are. Are we ready to go, as soon as needed? In fact, are we consciously waiting for the call to action from God? Or. . . . are we in a relaxed spiritual stance, so relaxed that we are not really prepared to move very far and definitely not very quickly. “. . . be prepared in season and out of season” 2 Tim 4:2 NIV Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Tim 4:15-16 NIV Are we really convinced that God can use us in His plan? Are we really ready, prepared, prayed us, diligent students and followers of the Living God? Each of the coaches for our Jr. High and High School teams agreed upon the technique of readiness and reinforced these fundamentals so consistently that it became increasingly second nature. They also explained what they had in mind and why. God has a plan for each of us. He loves us so much. He wants us to actively involved in His work, caring for others, loving on others, forgiving others and sharing about Him with others. Are we ready? If it has been some time, please reinforce what you already know about Jesus by rereading the book of Matthew or John. Reacquaint yourself with His story. Then continue your journey of discovery with Him by reading more and more and especially getting passionate about your prayer life, listening and talking with the Living God. Let’s ask God to help us be ready, prepared. May we be “diligent in these matters” and give ourselves “wholly to them.” Let’s be prepared. Have a great month of Thanksgiving! Friends,

I was watching a Jr. High football game the other night and I noticed that the linemen were not setting up in their stance the way we were instructed way back when I used to play. I used to be reasonably quick off the ball and have claimed I was as fast as anybody on our team. . . for the first five yards. Truthfully, I can’t ever remember the coaches holding a five-yard race, but I do remember having many basic techniques drilled into my teammates and myself.

“. . . be prepared in season and out of season” 2 Tim 4:2 NIV

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Tim 4:15-16 NIV

Are we really convinced that God can use us in His plan? Are we really ready, prepared,

prayed us, diligent students and followers of the Living God?

In Christ,

In Christ, Pastor Alan

In Memory of Marjorie Beane

Marjorie Wilma (Rosedale) Beane, 97, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Born December 6, 1921 at the family’s farm in Cloverdale. She was the daughter of Oliver and Andrea (Roenstad) Rosedale. She was the 13th child of 15. She graduated from LeGrand High School and attended Central Iowa Business College. She worked in various secretarial positions including Farm Bureau, Recorders Office and the Driver’s License Department of Marshall County, and typed for her brother’s tax office during tax season. On January 24, 1943 Marjorie married Donald Beane, a classmate from LeGrand. They farmed in Green Mountain and LeGrand and retired in LeGrand.

Church was always important to Marjorie. She read her Bible every day. As a child, she was a member of the Stavanger Friends Church. After marriage, she transferred to the LeGrand Friends Church where she taught Sunday School, chaired the kitchen committee and was an active member. She was also a member of USFW and several clubs in the LeGrand area. Marjorie wrote a book of poetry, composed music for family birthdays, was a wonderful cook and helped in all aspects of farming with her husband. She and Donald were blessed to travel to all fifty states, numerous European countries, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, St. Thomas, the Bahamas, and Russia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald (2007), son Charles Donald and her parents. She is survived by four children--Barbara (Dale Burkheimer), Linda (Francis Beyea), Dennis (Kathryn Wilson), Donna (James Hoeksema); 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

What is Triennial? Once every three years Friends from the United States, Kenya, Jamaica, Cuba, Ramallah and Belize

gather together to worship, share, and learn about what is happening among Friends around the world. Next summer the triennial conference is being held in Kenya, Africa. Lloyd Stangeland is president of Quaker Men and is involved in planning their portion of the conference. Charlotte Stangeland has been invited to lead the Bible study on the first morning of the conference. All conference activities will be centered on the calls and commissions of Jesus.

• COME. Matt. 4:19, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” • ABIDE. John 15:4, “Abide in me, and I will abide in you.” • GO. Matthew 28:19, “Go and make disciples of all nations."

There will be opportunities following the conference to go on safari or visit some of the Friends mission work in Kenya or Tanzania. This is an amazing opportunity to meet Friends from other countries and learn more about the work of Friends around the world. Now is the time to pray and see if God would have you attend.
