The bible describes this New Testament moment in this manner, “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. Virtual Worship

Sermon Topic: “From Now On”

Sermon Text: Act 2:14-21 “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.

Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”

Acts 2:17 NIV

At the beginning of Acts 2:17 above, it begins with the words, “In the last days.” These words are a reminder that our sovereign God, Him who made the heavens and the earth, through His Word the bible has issued a divine proclamation, decree and promise to humanity that “from now on,” in these last days, until the Second Coming of Jesus, this is how I will operate upon the earth. This good news is wonderful for people of faith. It allows us to know that regardless of our human experience or encounters (pandemic or otherwise) God and His Word will determine our present and final outcome to faith and life. 1st Peter 1:24-25 speaks to our human predicament with these words; “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” Join us this Sunday, May 31st as we receive from God, words of encouragement and empowerment – to know that because the Lord has spoken, we can faithfully live in the assurance that no matter what God has our back.

Old Testament Reading: Numbers 11:24–30 (Moses prays for the Spirit upon all.)

Second Reading: Acts 2:1–21 (The coming of the Holy Spirit)

Holy Gospel: John 7:37–39 (Rivers of living water)

Happy Birthday to the Christian Church! This Sunday, May 31st the Body of Christ the world over will

celebrate Pentecost Day. Though Pentecost has roots that are connected to the Old Testament Festival of Weeks

or Harvest (see Exodus 23:14-19 and Numbers 28:26-31), the New Testament modern day version is connected

to Jesus words to His disciples in Acts 1:4-5; “On one occasion, while he (Jesus) was eating with them, he gave

them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard

me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

In Acts 2:1-13 the above promise was fulfilled; God the Father gave the gift of the Holy Spirit to all who

believed in Jesus. The bible describes this New Testament moment in this manner, “They saw what seemed to be

tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and

began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:3-4 NIV) We give thanks to God the

Father for the gift of the Holy Spirt that gave birth to the Christian Church then and generations and years later

this same Spirit continues to ignite, renew and sanctify God’s people and the Church. Let us pause in our

prayers, praise and worship to give thanks for the work of the Holy Spirit that is alive and well in us today as

members of the Body of Christ.

Lift Up and Support those Struggling with Mental Health Article from LCMS Concordia Health Plan Services May 19, 2020 You try on shoes to check their fit. An odd opening, I know. What do shoes have to do with mental health? How do you find a pair that fits right? You try them on your feet. The same goes for mental health and finding the solution that works or “fits” you best. We’re in week three of our mental health series, and we have two more people to meet. Meet Stephanie Jones, wife of Pastor Andy Jones who you heard from last week, and Chelsea Borgmann from the Concordia Plan Services Marketing Department. A pastor’s wife and a corporate Synod worker (respectively), might not seem like the most prominent roles in the LCMS, but they indeed are integral. What’s more, they each have compelling perspectives on mental health and novel advice to share with you. (If you would like to read more click on this link Mentalhealth)

The Role and Service of a Church Leader

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

1st Peter 5:6-7 NIV

Next Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 6:00pm you are invited to join us as we walk with Peter who provides instructions for Pastors, Elders and Deaconesses in their role and service to the church in general, but especially during difficult times within the culture or society. These instructions from 1st Peter 5:1-14 are helpful for anyone who is called to fulfill the role and service of leadership within their home, community or vocation. In a time of Pandemic or trouble, Chapter five breathes fresh air into any situation that is negative or dysfunctional to remind us that there are certain spiritual keys to helping self and others work through faith and life issues with the help and support of God.
