October 2020 The Monthly Newsletter of Unity in the Olympics In Unison In Unison The Beauty of Us by Timothy West As we move through the changes that have occurred over the past few months I have come to realize that WE, as Unity in the Olympics, have been gifted by some amazing people on this journey to higher consciousness. This really is a beautiful community of like-minded people. We are so blessed. I say this as I see this as I am in awe with gratitude in all that I have experienced in the Unity Movement. It really has been a beautiful journey. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and "I behold that Christ in You!" The very last statement in our Unity Blessing is, "We behold the Christ in you!" Did you realize that when we say this blessing, that it is applicable to ALL of US? I see this in each and every one of us and I am grateful for all that We are. This month we carry on with the theme 20/20 Vision with the affirmation of Beauty—Nature’s beauty reflects my own true nature. As a CommUnity we proclaim, "Nature's beauty reflects Our true nature." Kelly Isola says this in her article, "Looking Clearly at Beauty," on unity.org: If I look closely at a tree, my “eyes” see dead twigs, broken leaves, and knotty bark, just like the scars on my body. What “I” see is the tree standing tall in all its glory and splendor while witnessing the perfect rhythm of imperfect beauty. We’re all familiar with the phrase “beauty is in the eye of beholder,” so am I looking with my “eye” or with my “I”? When I look with my “I,” beauty is everything, it is all. It’s not what I see with the judgments of my eyes or what you say is beautiful; it’s about remembering there exists that untouched place of grace, the heart of wholeness in all life. It is this exquisite innocence that saves us, unites us, heals us, empowers us, nourishes us, and makes us beautiful. The tree would not be the tree without all its elements. The universe knows nothing else than how to make beauty, and my work is to remember I am a part of that universe. My story in all its glory and all its depravity is a seedling of the great universal story. Furry, Furry Four-Legged Friends by Duane Morris

Our own Reverend Emeritus, Donna Little, has so often introduced herself in her bio with the fact that she lives in Sequim with her furry four-leggeds. And forgive me for not remembering all their names, but, I do remember Rosie trotting around the sanctuary with Rev Donna on one of her regular days of presence in our UitO home. Constantly at Donna’s side, Rosie was a faithful companion and seemed to be interested in everything.

If by chance you do not have a four-legged pet, or a two-legged pet for that matter, I want to share a bit about my two furry four-legged friends, Tiggie and Kozmo.

Thanks to Peninsula Friends of Animals they both came into my life on the same day 3 years ago.

Being 6 weeks old and ready for adoption I found Tiggie climbing around in a small cage by herself, literally hanging by claws from a swinging rod. It was love at first sight. She is a tortoiseshell feline, slinky, totally independent, outside she would be a huntress, inside she is a climber. I had intended to name her Tortie but because she looked and felt like a tiger so her name became Tiggie. She is amazingly playful – but only on her terms. She absolutely loves chasing the laser light beam (yes a true hunter) and if you shine the light up on a wall she can leap about…wait let me go measure… 4 feet 4 inches from a running start. Amazing. Friends who visit all have a hilarious time watching her run down the hallway and spring.

Kozmo got his name because he is black, almost solidly, except for small white hairs sporadically located in his fur, instantly reminding me of looking up into a dark starry night and seeing little pin pricks of light. He is not fast,

not a hunter, loves to eat (he’ll eat whatever Tiggie leaves behind), is at my feet constantly and is a natural lap cat. He endeared me with always rub-bing his head on the top of my bare feet-yes, ticklish. A lover and a con-stant friend. He was shy at first, I don’t remember seeing him for about two days at first…but his food was gone. Both he and Tiggie are found now at the foot of my chair during meditation.

What have I learned from Kozmo and Tiggie? Take plenty of naps. Exercise your independence. Don’t worry if you change your mind instantly. Go with the flow. Be loyal. Have fun. Love unconditionally.

During this Covid-19 crisis a furry four-legged friend can be just the partner that teaches you enthusiasm, love, and gratitude.

Finan¢e Report Hello to all! I am thrilled to announce that my health has improved (thanks for all the prayers!) and your Board of Trustees asked me to come back as Treasurer for another year at the August meeting. It beings joy to my heart to accept! As reported last month, your Board of Trustees requested an audit of the June Profit and Loss statements to ensure accuracy and categorization of line items. I reviewed the records and all is in order. Presented at the September 20 Board meeting, the August 2020 Profit and Loss report shows a net income of $88.97. All outstanding bills have been paid. The July tithe allocation (paid out in August) was $150 out of which we allocated $25 each to Silent Unity, Unity NW Region, Unity Worldwide Ministries, First Step, the Port Angeles Food Bank and the Sequim Food Bank. It is so wonderful to see the generous way you have continued to support Unity in the Olympics through these past months! Please keep your tithes and offerings coming in by mail or visit our website at www.unityintheolympics.org and click on the yellow “Donate” button. We appreciate each and every contribution! In love and prosperity, Kim Perkins / UITO Treasurer

Divine Love, through me,

blesses and multiplies All that I am,

All that I have, All that I give,

And all that I receive… I give in Love.

Unity Spiritual Tool: Looking Clearly Looking clearly links the seer and the seen. We no longer separate from our environment or from ourselves. Distractions fall away, our thoughts become calmer, and we literally see with new eyes.

Through seeing clearly, we are open to a greater sense of being alive. This is what Jesus was encouraging us to do when he asked his disciples, “Stay awake, watch, and pray.”

How Do We Practice Looking Clearly?

By Rev Paul John Roach

I am a birdwatcher and love to sit in my yard or go out on walks looking for birds. When I first look, little is to be seen. But as I settle in, a stillness and attentiveness develop and I begin to notice the breeze, the movement of leaves and insects, and yes, the birds.

Looking Clearly is patient and expansive. It allows and notices. it connects us to a deeper awareness of what is in and around us.

How Do We Practice This Special Kind of Looking?

First, by being willing to be present to what is, without analysis or judgment. There is tremendous power in simply noticing.

It may sound too Zen to say look without looking. It simply means letting go of striving and searching and instead being ourselves naturally and effortlessly.

Mystic and social activist Father Richard Rohr captures this perfectly in his translation of 2 Corinthians 3:18; “Our unveiled gaze receives and reflects the brightness of God.”

Yes, our choice is to look, honestly, and without expectation, unites us with the glorious oneness of all things, and we awaken to deep peace in our souls.

See the Light, Be the Light,

Rev Donna Little

Home & What It Means to You . . . part 2 by Alice Alexander Our theme last month for Unity was Home and what that means to you. Part of what home means is the abundance of good food, and for the many in our country that have been laid off, they have to seek outside help to meet their basic needs.

Since the pandemic has hit our peninsula our food bank can no longer accept food donations. Therefore another means had to be found for those who want-ed to donate and those who needed emergency food now. The invention of the mini portable food pantries solved the problem.

The mini food pantries came from a grass roots movement throughout our country to help the many who were in need. Our local pantries are sponsored by Compassion Clallam County and Washington State University Clallam Co. Extension services.

The pantries have space for people to leave non- perishable food including pet food for those in need who can pick up what they need. There are people who donate on a regular basis and also those who pick up food daily. The basic idea is take what you need and give what you can.

Jan Wyman made masks to leave in the pantries until an organization donated 1,000 masks to be distributed in the pantries. Now she is planning to make children’s masks and start distributing them again.

The locations of the food pantries in Port Angeles are 4th and Cherry, 9th and E, Lutheran Church parking lot that serves the library and the church,

student housing on Park Street, and 2634 S. Francis which is near Lutheran Family Services.

The food bank is accepting cash donations and if you want to leave donations of cash or food, you may bring them to Unity Church on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between the hours of 10 and 2 and call Robbin, 360.457.3981, to come to the door and she will hold your donations at the church until Alice can deliver them to the pantries or the cash to the food bank.

Unity is still delivering food to TAFY at risk kids every other month on the third Saturday of the month. Our next delivery is November 21st. Check donations for the food we purchase for the kids can be mailed to Alice Alexander, 204 West 4th Street, Apt. #14, Port Angeles, WA 98362 made out to Alice and indicate TAFY on the memo line. This is a very important part of our church’s outreach program as there are between 35 and 45 kids that need our help.

Another part of the home experience is the way we feel about our church home. We have been collecting stuffed animals to be given to organizations that could give them to children who were in crisis, but since the pandemic we have to put that project on hold. We have put all the stuffed animals into plastic bags and they have been in 21 days quarantine and are now ready to be adopted.

Alice Bretches Alexander, is one of our Unity in the Olympics' volunteers that gifts Unity in the Olympics with her time, talent and treasures.

2) Addition of a Check-in/ Screening Station

* Check in to consist of health related questions and checking a patron's temperature.

3) Additional Hand Washing and Sanitizing Stations

4) Enforcing the wearing of face masks and/or shields while in the building.

5) Maintaining a distance between individuals or parties of at least 6 feet.

6) Additional cleaning and sanitizing before and after each building occupancy period.

PLEASE NOTE: THE BUILDING IS CURRENTLY CLOSED UNTIL CLALLAM COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH MOVES INTO AT LEAST PHASE III OF

THE COVID-19 REENTRY PROCESS.
