In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

My groups opening sequence is based upon 2 minutes of showing cuts of a female getting ready to eat her victim. Both characters in the opening sequence are females, one in which is the actual antagonist which consumes the victim and the other is the victim. Our opening sequence is female orientated which is conveyed in the female characters chosen for the sequence. This contrasts the feminists ideas of a patriarchal society which is going against the dominant ideology however supporting feminism. Having a female main character goes against the dominant ideologies that males are more powerful. Females are marginalised in the media industry and main role is taken by the male however our movie doesnt involve any male character in it promoting feminism and going against patriarchy. Bonn Connell calls hegemonic masculinity the dominance of heterosexual masculine identity and subordination of female identities A thriller usually consists of a battle between the protagonist character and the antagonist, when there is a disruption in the equilibrium. Then the story shows a chain of bad events building tension and suspense for the climax. The aim of the protagonist is to restore justice, while the antagonist seeks to destroy it. Our main plot is focused on a girl aged 18 (Hanna Balinski) who befriends a younger girl aged 16 (Carrie) and tries to control her life; influencing the way she acts, dresses and what she eats After Carrie refuses to take part in cannibalistic activities; Hanna Balinski turns on her and Carrie makes it her mission to escape before she too becomes main course of Hannas grand feast. Therefore in this case our movie supports the conventions of a thriller. The antagonist costume is based on dark colours to convey the message of the antagonist being dangerous, it adds a mystery and thrill to the whole genre of a thriller. Dark costume are used in thrillers in order to demonstrate and convey thoughts about the antagonist and contrasts the antagonist from the rest of the characters to show clear division of personality and behaviour.Blacks and whites are also used as a convention of thrillers as it shows the sinister side of the film and the cold harshness which many thrillers portray. For example Sin City shows extensive use of black and white to portray the harsh narrative. There are many close up used in order to portray the emotions of the victim in the opening sequence, as there is not much narrative used in our thriller it demonstrates its feelings and emotions throughout close ups which are captured by the close ups Silhouette shots are used to create a switching effect of unsafe and safe as the camera angles and cuts of footage switch in sharp and short timing. Therefore our movie supports the convention of a thriller as the shots can build up tension very quickly when needed.
