The ways in which my magazine uses, develops or challenges forms and conventions of real media products

Using conventions • The image is always central and I have chosen to use this convention as I feel it

works well on the magazine and help to make the picture stand out on the page as the main focus.

• Another convention I saw on the front cover of blender is there is nearly always a tricolour scheme (only 3 colours used)

• Only one image is used on the front to stop it looking cluttered and overcrowded.

• Blender as a magazine also seems to hint towards female power, especially on their front covers.

• Blender nearly always uses a white background with black and one other colour for the text.

• I used a bright fiery colour and a playful yet still sophisticated font.• I have kept the barcode in the same place as it appears on a blender magazine.• Direct mode of adress is used in blender and in my magazine.

Developing conventions

• Blender tries to catch peoples eyes by having quite provocative models on the front cover, I have decided to go a bit classier and have my models in more clothes with slightly less provocative clothes but still have them be posing in a ‘cheeky’ manner and have them interacting with one another which blender cannot do as they only ever have one model.

• I have tried to use more direct language than is used in blender as I feel they did not use enough direct mode of address.

Challenging conventions

• Blender never has more than one peorson on the front and they always look very posed and professional so I decided to have a band and have them looking more natural, not to a point where it became unprofessional but just enough to have them seem not real to their fans.

• I have included coloured shapes behind some of the text on the front cover which blender have not done as I feel it adds more to the layout of the cover and hakes it stand out more as it separates the text from the rest of the page, this challenges blenders convention of having a blanks page with only one picture and text on the front.

As you can see from the previous slides I have used more codes and

conventions from blender than I have developed of challenged. This is

because I like the layout of the front and set up as well as the way the

model and the words are carefully placed using the rule of thirds which I

have also tried to use on my front cover.
