Firstly, thank you to all our parents and carers for supporting us this week with the drop off and picks up times, it has certainly been much smoother and great to have received such positive feedback from you about the changes that have bene put in place to help keep us all safe.

With the news of Covid 19 cases rises in Redbridge it is of paramount importance that everyone does their bit to helping keep socially distanced and supporting the whole school community at this time. As you will have read from the letter sent out on Monday, we sadly had to send some pupils and staff home following a positive test result. Our thoughts have been with the member of staff at this time, wishing them a speedy recovery and also to welcoming the children back to school soon.

If a member of your household tests positive it is very important that you inform the school and keep all children in family at home for 14 days. If you had Covid like symptoms and received a negative test result, you and your children are able to return to normal once you feel well again. You only need to have a test if you are experiencing Covid symptoms, please follow the government guidance if you are unsure.

From Tam Broadway – Primary Headteacher

Covid 19 symptoms:• a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or

back (you do not need to measure your temperature)

• a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

• a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

If your child has any of the listed systems above, please let the office know and they will support you with what to do.

This guidance for educational settings indicates who can get a test, local test sites, and how to book your test. It is vital that educational settings only recommend children to get a test if they develop coronavirus symptoms. These are:

• a high temperature • a new, continuous cough • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

Should children require a test there are two local testing sites, as well as those situated in our neighbouring boroughs.

• Mildmay Road Car Park, open 8am-8pm 7 days a week. • A Mobile Testing Unit routinely visits Gants Hill. The next dates are 15, 18, 21,

24, 26 and 30 September.

All test sites are government run and appointment only. They can be booked through the online national system.

Book your test here: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. If you are a member of staff you are an essential worker and can indicate that when booking. This will prioritise your appointment. onlinedoctor.lloydspharmacy.com/coronavirus/test

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year to increase the children’s interest and intrigue in their times tables, INAP will be having a Times Table Championship. Each class from Year 2 to Year 6 will compete against one another in a head-to-head with the overall winners, winning the inaugural INAP Times Table Championship trophy. Over the course of the competition, each class will play each other twice and points accrued by answering times tables correctly. Any platform can be used to access the website and earn the children points, be it studio, garage, arena, festival, soundcheck or rockslam.

To ensure fairness, Year 2 pupils will only be allocated and expected to answer questions on the times tables that they are expected to know from the National Curriculum, this will apply to each year group to ensure that matches are fair. Each match will last one week, and children will be able to view their progress on the Times Table Rockstars website. As there are 15 classes involved in the competition, on some weeks your child’s class will not be involved but please ensure you are aware of when they are expected to compete to avoid any disappointment.

Three points will be awarded for a win and in the unlikely event of a draw one point will be allocated. If at the end of the season teams are level on points, points difference will separate the classes. Your child will be given a username and a login by the teachers in the coming few weeks to enable them to access the website. If you are having any issues login onto the platform, please can you tell your class teacher and we will try and sort any technical difficulties before the competition commences.

The competition will commence on the 28th September and fixtures released in next week’s newsletter.

To access the website please follow this link:

Let the games begin!

BRIDGES in the Primary Phase“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.”

Isaac Newton

BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be in-troduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certifi-cate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel below.

At School • At school we encourage the pupils to make sure they play in a kind and

thoughtful way and ensure that they include others in their games. Games where ‘turn-taking’ is needed are great at helping the children to understand that everyone has fair turn.

• It is also important that the children learn how to win and lose a game graciously and show humility when they win or congratulate the winner and say well done if they lose.

• The children need to learn and understand the importance of telling the truth even when it feels uncomfortable when we have to admit that we have done something wrong. They also need to learn to take responsibility for their actions and not get into a habit of blaming others. It is important that the children have a moral sense of right and wrong.

• Each half term the class teacher chooses two ambassadors to help the pupils develop their citizenship skills and by helping with jobs in their class or at lunchtimes.

• We encourage every child to help keep the school environment clean by clearing away plates or cups after lunch or tidying up their own table place after activities in class.

At Home• Talk to your child about how they can be a good citizen within their community,

by not dropping litter etc. • Talk about what is fair and encourage your child to help out at home with tidying

their room or books away so that they develop a sense of responsibility and respect towards theirs and others’ property.

• Reinforce the message about always telling the truth and why this is important. • When you are reading stories together with your child, discuss characters, their

behaviour and moral decision and whether they are good or bad characters and why. What should the character have done instead etc.
