power of redemption

The LORD did not set his a!ection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh

Power of Redemption Ministries-COGIC

On February 28, 2010, Pastor Victor Chambers and

Co-Pastor Billie Chambers held their "rst service at Power of Redemption Ministries, Church of God In Christ, Clinton, MD. With Deuteronomy 7, verses 7-8 as an inspiration, the new branch of Zion took #ight and has been ‘leaning forward’

every since. Pastor Chambers

notes that the birthing actually began months early, when the Lord laid it upon him to start a church. Chambers has said that he asked the LORD how this was possi-ble, and he got

a most humorous response: “You have some money, use that!” And with that exchange the process began.

Well you don’t just

start a church- you "rst must have a site.

So on the

way

home- one day late in November 2009, the new pastor saw a sign advertising for available rental space. He inquired and was shown favor by the property owner for an unused space which would soon become the new church. So with the help of close friends, brothers-in-the -Lord, and family members, they began the transformation to a worship place for God’s people.

In our search for the where, God directed me to several building that we could poten-tially call our church home. It was not until one day after leaving work that I notices just outside Andrews AFB a signed: “warehouse/o$ce space for lease.” I inquired and imme-diately knew that this was the chuurch. We met with the real-tor and owner, negotiated the price, and received the keys December 1, 2009.

My question to God now was how do we turn this old rug-ged waredhouse /o$ce space into a place of worship, and God told me that he didn’t call me without provisions and a plan. He was faithful to pro-vide the plan. God also pro-vided the "nances.

Deuternomy 7:7-8. According to Pastor Cham-

bers: “It was from this text that God gave me the name for this newborn- Power of Redemp-tion Ministries.” This birthing process has been a journey. “

“Just knowing that it was God’s call, kept me on the birthing ta-ble; and it was the only conso-lation that I would have to hold onto. You would think I would have approached this awe-some task with con"dence and not apprehension. But, I found that in those moments of ap-prehension, I prayed more earnestly as opposed to being over con"dent about the task at hand and then pray little or not at all. I never wanted to take on the attitude that I ‘got this under control’. God has been faithful as promised and has kept us steadfast, unmov-

I thank God for all those who prayed with us and for those who occassioally stopped by to help. And, as expected, God was faithful in the "nances. It was on February 28, 2010, we had our "rst worship service.

Thank God for my wife, Co-Pastor, Evangelist Billie Cham-bers , who was the only one in the delivery room during this birthing process. And, we- like all new parents- are particular about who holds our baby. Thank God for the brothers and sisters of the baby, The Power of Redemption Family.“

I continue to ask God: “What do you do when your vision is too big to frame, and much bigger then the church bank account? I still hear him say: ”Walk by faith and not by sight.”

Become a visible commu-nity of Christ-like relation-ships, connecting people to God through Jesus Christ and to one another, to impact our community for Christ.

Elder Victor B. Chambers has served faith-

fully, since 1997, as Assistant Pastor of Ridgley Ministries, Church of God in Christ, Upper Mar-lboro, MD, under the tutelage and spiritual leadership of Senior Pastor, Dr. Herbert J. Russell. Afer having responding to

the call to birth a new church, Elder Chambers and his wife, Evangelist Billie Chambers continued to pray earnestly for divine direction on when, where and how this baby was going to come forth. God took Elder Chambers into the birthing room, where he opened his Bible to

God’s own heart), and Joseph the Dreamer. The VBS team, led by Deacon and Sister Le#uer, provided a well-crafted agenda that left all who attended feeling they indeed learned a great deal about the great many Super Heroes of the Faith. May

God be glori"ed for the great things accomplished this year and let us, Power of Redemp-tion, continue to strive for the perfection of the e!ort again next year and for those VBSs to come.

On the big day, the POR church family was very excited about what God was getting ready to do. History for the church was taking place. The atmosphere was "lled with anticipation as Pastor Victor B. Chambers, Sr. was uniting the couple in holy matrimony. With marriage being a gift from God and one of his greatest

institution, it should never be taken for granted.

As I glanced at the bride, I noticed a bit of nervousness, but she worn everything so elegantly and simply looked gorgeous in her #ow-ing white grown. Now the groom- well he was just smil-ing from ear to ear, looking quite dashing as well, in his black tuxedo.

The couple’s one-year old daughter, Dominique, nearly stole the show when she

came walking down the aisle with the biggest of cheer-leading squad (the entire church) encouraging her own. Not to totally out-done, the bridal party looks amaz-ing in there red and black attire.

I would like to encourage the couple to always keep God at the center of their marriage. The Bible teaches that “how can two walk together except they be agreed”, so be determined to allow nothing or no one to come between you two

always be willing to compro-mise and agree on things. You and your spouse are not in competition with each other. Marriage is team work and there is no “I” or “U” in team. Remember to always keep God at the center of your marriage.

years as assistant pastor, under the tutelage of its senior pastor, Dr. Herbert J. Russell.

A moving moment during the installation was- when on cue, Lyles left the pulpit and instructed Chambers to join him and bow down before the congregation. Circled by the distinguished clergy in attendance and Evangelist

Super Heroes in Training

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2011Valuable time was spent

planning for this year Vacation Bible School

which was held during July 11 - 14, 2011. This would mark the "rst time that Power of Redemption Ministries would hold a VBS since its inception in 2010. The overall theme for this year’s VBS was Super Heroes, supported by Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” All of the lessons and activities centered around the great Super Heroes of the Faith.

Below the title above - “Super Heroes in Training”- is a photo-

graph taken during VBS of Sisters: Marissa Savory and Justice McGee; along with Brothers: Joshua Savory, James Clower, and Jeremy Savory. These young people, with their hands symboli-cally raised, give insight on their pledge to take on the task set before them- learn about the many Super Heroes of the Bible.

Early in life, Sojourner was burdened with the slave name Isabelle Baumfree. And, since she was a slave and not allowed to be educated in school, the young Isabelle was taught the Bible by her mother - which she came to know very well. Pictured below are a couple of pictures from the 2011 Easter Egg Hunt at Power, where many of our young people looked for those elusive Easter Eggs. As the adjacent

The fund for Power didn’t just end there, but continued on with the performance of the People,s Drama Ministry of Prince Georges Coun-ty (story on next page).

Another "rst for the ministry was a visit by County Council Member Mel Frank-lin (District 9), (right) who pre-sented Pastor Chambers a plaque commorat-ing the
