Welcome to Templeton Youth Outdoor Education & Leadership

Dear parents or guardian of _____________________________:

My name is Kate Inch and I look forward to working with your son/daughter this year, who is currently enrolled in YOE. This is an elective alternative to the Gr.10 Physical Education course (also offered as Leadership 11/12) and is designed to assist students in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and attitudes which will help them to safely enjoy outdoor pursuits.

This course will challenge students – physically and emotionally, while helping them to develop critical thinking & decision-making skills, team-building, cooperation and a connection to active health and wellness. With a focus on Education for Sustainability, students will have the opportunity to learn about Environmental Stewardship and reflect on outdoor recreation and environmental issues in BC. Additionally, students will participate in The Duke of Edinburgh Program, the world’s leading youth achievement award, which challenges students in areas of community service, citizenship and outdoor physical pursuits. https://www.dukeofed.org/

As detailed on the course outline, learning will take place both in the classroom and on our many out-trips throughout the year (approx. one trip/month). As per course expectations, trip participation is mandatory. Trip costs and field trip forms are assigned per trip and will be discussed in greater detail as they approach. All trips are based on trail conditions and availability, so dates may be subject to change. Best efforts will be made to provide advance notice of any changes.

More information can be found on the ‘YOE’ course outline. A copy can be accessed through our class website at http://msinch.weebly.com. This website will be updated on a regular basis and will provide important class information and access to other resources. A high level of student engagement, responsibility and leadership is expected in this course. I can be reached by email ([email protected]) or by phoning the school at 604-713-8984. Please provide your current email address so I can send you trip information and updates as needed.
