Safe Places Sharing Events Safe Places is a scheme to provide safe places in the community where people with learning disabilities can go if they get into trouble or feel unsafe, frightened or bullied. We know that there is a lot of good work going on in the North East and Yorkshire and Humber and we will be having two events where people can share what is happening in their area.
We have asked some people to tell us about their Safe
Places schemes and what has made it a success.
Inclusion North Bulletin

This network is for people working or volunteering in Inclusion North member areas only. This year we will be holding separate meetings for groups in Yorkshire & Humber and the North East so you can go to the one closest to you. The aims of the network are:
To share examples of good practice and learning
To work together to find solutions to challenges
To explore any things we might work on together
The next meetings are:
25th May for Yorkshire & Humber in York
26th May for the North East in Newcastle
The sessions will start at 10.30am and finish at 2.30pm. Drinks and a light lunch will be provided. We will be focusing on issues to do with funding, how to use graphic facilitation and following up on the development of the ‘How to Influence’ booklet. The network will be facilitated by Kirsty Morgan but we hope that members of the network will be active too.

People with learning disabilities to design quality checks for NHS services
People with a learning disability are being asked to help with new tests to improve NHS Services by the NHS quality checkers programme.
People with a learning disability will be employed to inspect local NHS Services.
These people will advise on how people’s needs can be made better by using their own experience of care and support.
NHS England are looking to help groups set up to offer Quality Checks and improve consistency across the country.
They will do this by establishing a national programme to support local quality checks.
NHS England with the Centre of Disability Studies at The University of Leeds and CHANGE will be asking
People with a learning disability
Families and Carers
Local and National Groups
To develop new resources.
Dr Paul Lelliott, Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals (lead for mental health), said
“The voices of people, who use services, including the voices of people with a learning disability, are a vital source of information for providers and commissioners on the quality of care being provided. For CQC, they help inform when, where and what we inspect and our judgements and ratings of services.”
