    Best ways of supporting people with complex needsWe are doing some research into what is good support forpeople with additional support needs looking at areas thatreally matter to people like supporting friendship, good health,work, advocacy, PAs and family involvement.

    We want to make a book that shares all of these goodexamples and helps everyone develop good support optionsfor people with complex needs.

    Safeguarding and Hate Crime Project

    We are working with local areas to work out how people withLearning Disabilities get the right support from Community

    groups and the Justice System when they have experienceddisability hate crime or harassment.We can help you work out how people get access to the rightsupport from the criminal justice system, community supportsas well as safeguarding

    Impact of the English Directly Enhanced Service for LearningDisability

    Government fund to help disabled people stand for electedoffice

    The government has worked closely with disabled people'sorganisations and other stakeholders to develop practicalsupport to help disabled people who want to stand for election.

    They have set up the Access to elected office fund which canhelp with things like:

    Difficulties using public transport

    Paying for sign language interpreters

    Paying extra travel or accommodation costs if you need acarer

    It is open for applications until the end of March 2014

    Newlife Foundation

    The Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children supports parentsand carers across the UK, providing a range of equipment forthe under-19s with physical, learning and behaviouraldifficulties.

    A new fund from the Department for Business Innovation

    and Skills

    A new 50 million fund to support mature students withlearning difficulties or disabilities, parents who need help withchildcare and ex-military personnel has been announced byBusiness Secretary Vince Cable and Skills Minister JohnHayes.

    The bursary scheme will support mature students to get theskills and qualifications they need in further education, byhelping to meet costs such as childcare, travel, books andequipment.

    Survey - People who Challenge ServicesSkills for Care are putting together a framework of guidanceand support on commissioning workforce solutions to meet theneeds of people with behaviour which challenges.

    They have done a simple short questionnaire to gather viewsand feedback from employers of all sizes and types as well asfrom people who use services, employees and carers.

    Consultation on a new adult safeguarding powerThe Department of Health is consulting on a new adultsafeguarding power.

    Their aim for adult safeguarding is to make sure that there is aclear legal and policy framework, that supports localarrangements and practices protect adults at risk of abuse andneglect.

    The Consultation is open until 12th October 2012.

    Petition from the National Forum for people with Learning

    Disabilities

    The National Forum of People with Learning Difficulties wantsan end to the cuts to important services and local authorityspending on learning disability services. They want theGovernment to have a clear plan of how they will make thingsbetter for people with learning difficulties.

    Campaign to stop the abuse and neglect of people with alearning disability

    Led by Mencap the Challenging BehaviourNational SteeringGroup campaign subgroup has developed a campaign plan totake action to address the issues that arose followingWinterbourne View. As part of this they are asking people tosupport the campaign by completing signing there petitionwhich you can do here:

    Campaign to Stop the abuse and neglect of people with alearning disability

    They are also asking people to contact your local MP to askthem to call on health secretary Andrew Lansley to put anaction plan in place, to ensure that people with a learning

    disability are protected from abuse and supported in theircommunities, near their families and support networks.
