CANADIAN HOME BUILDERS’ ASSOCIATION OF BC — ANNUAL REPORT 2019

March 2020

To the Board of Directors CHBA BC,

I am delighted to report to you on the financial wellbeing of the Association for the year ending June 30, 2019. The Association has maintained its strong financial position due to the growing support of our key membership activities, including education, energy programs and annual events like the Georgie Awards.

My sincerest congratulations to Neil Moody and his team for a highly successful 2019. They are to be commended for their fiscally responsible stewardship of the association’s financial operations. Monthly, the Executive Committee receives a comprehensive financial snapshot from our accountant, Eldon Guenther at Eccounting. The frequency of these communications helps ensure that CHBA BC is managing within budgets, while mitigating unexpected adverse financial risks.

In 2019, CHBA BC’s Executive Committee continued to apply rigorous budget-ing for revenues, and it appears that education registrations have settled into a steadier, more predictable pattern. While there is no immediate concern that these revenue streams will deteriorate substantially, Neil and the team are very aware that the Association must still work within its means. Continuing to reserve significant retained earnings as “restricted funds” will safeguard CHBA BC against unexpect-ed headwinds.

Our Auditors, Baker Tilly WM LLP, have provided their review of the 2019 financial statements and I am happy to report the audit is clean. Our Auditors continued to provide strategic advice to ensure that CHBA BC is protected against financial risks. Baker Tilly WM LLP have provided a report of our accounts which represent the financial position of the Association for the financial year, in accordance with generally accepted accounting and audit practices.

2019 Priorities and Highlights:

• Membership revenues have grown by nearly 5% • Education, Energy Programs and Events like Builder Super Week and the Georgie Awards continue to drive strong revenues • Governmental relations strengthened and punctuated by a highly successful inaugural “Day at the Legislature” • Staffing now to full complement, including the role of Communications-Social Media Coordinator • Roll out of CHBA BC’s first accredited renovation training program

The Board remains committed to providing benefits to members as a result of accumulated surplus funds. The Special funding program that was launched in 2019 has successfully assisted four locals in 2019 to nearly $33,000. These application requests are regularly reviewed by the Executive Board and authorized within annual budget availability. Furthermore, CHBA BC is proud to redistribute $160,450 in revenue sharing, from CPD training, to its member locals.

I am confident that the Association’s financial outlook remains very positive. I would like to thank my fellow board members for their strategic thinking over financial issues. I would also like to thank the CHBA BC office team for their ongoing support and dedication to the association. Our outlook for 2020 continues to be encouraging and we are well positioned to deliver value to our more than 2,000 members all across British Columbia.

Respectfully submitted,

RANDY CHINSecretary/Treasurer, CHBA BC
