Münster, the bicycle capital of Germany, is a charming city with a wide-range of attractive leisure and cultural activities.
Münster is only a few kilometers away from the Netherlands and is an agriculturally oriented region with mostly smallindustries. Farming, particularly horse farms,dominate the area around Münster.
Founded in 793 A.D., Münster is a historic city, rich in tradition but young at heart. One fifth of its inhabitants are students. They give considerable life to the city and help to shape it.
For students Münster offers simply everything: culture, art, nature, sports and fun.

The start of the 1970ies brought new horizons in education politics.New demands of a more and more complex society made itnecessary to create a new profile for places of training.
The result was the formation of a unique type of university: the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences). From an amalgamation of publicly and privately owned schools of higher education in engineering and other praxis-oriented institutions, the University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1971.
At the beginning there were a mere 2,300 students, today we areone the largest universities of this type in North-Rhine Westphaliaand in Germany with over 14,000 students.

Semester TicketAll students have to pay a social contribution fee for each semester (currently EUR 265). This ticket allows you to use all local public transport in Münster and the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia free of charge (second class only).
