A recent Compuware-commissioned Forrester Consulting study found that 64 percent of mainframe-powered organizations are running over half their mission-critical workloads on the mainframe. Meanwhile, they are only replacing one-third of retiring experts. 

The role of the developer is also changing. Whereas development, testing and quality assurance used to be separate functions, as companies adopt Agile processes, developers are testing and performing quality checks as they write code.
