INCREDIBLE INDIAHello… my name is Annisa Danni Kartika, nurse science student in University

of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Indonesia. This summer I had chance to be exchange participant in AIESEC UNS. My destination country is India. I went to India 9 th July 2013 till 23th August 2013 to do “HEALTH CARE – AFFLATUS” project AIESEC DELHI IIT.

India… I am coming

I arrived in Indira Gandhi Airport at 5 am ( Indian time – one a half hour earlier than Indonesia time ). It is earlier than real schedule at 5.30 am. When I arrived in New Delhi, I was worried because its my first time to go aboard alone. I stayed in airport about 4 hour to wait my manager pick up me. I killed my time to looked around airport in inside cause I worried to go outside.

India Shock culture

Incredible India, that’s what Indian people say. Well, they are right 100% !!! Did I have culture shock there? Yes of course, it make me shock but I enjoyed it. Almost one week, I just travelling. Because my project not clear. I had still difficulties getting used to everything that is different such as climate is so high temperature (range 37- 40 o C), the food is so spicy with so many mace flavor, the over – crowded traffic with honk and jam everywhere, the Indian people habitual and activity, the animals on the street like bird and dog with their poop etc. The way of living was nothing that I seen in Indonesia. But through time I was to able to meet others EP’s and I spent most time with them the things that shocked me earlier become normal things.

Health care – afflatus project

After one weeks, my manager gave me my NGO address. At first day I failed to found it cause not clear address, then I continued next day. After I found it, I waited the doctor 4 hour cause I must do interview with doctor to join with them as trainer in their office. Any 3 trainer there but all trainer is Indian people, no one EP’s worked in this project. but 2 days later any 2 EP’s from Egypt come. Its make me happy cause I have friends here, beside all Indian staff in office.

I have been working in AFFLATUS PATH LAB. I need 45 minute from my accommodation by India metro rail. This place like little laboratory for check blood, urine, stool, liver, lipid and kidney function test. In this project, My job was learning about biochemistry, haemograms, memorize investigation and sometime visited several clinic and hospital.

I worked 4 days one weeks from 10 am till 4 pm. At first week, I felt so bored cause just sit on chair, read the file, memorize it, and no else. Second week, not different like before, but one day we visited one of university to made contact companies and convince them for corporate check-ups. They not give me permit to

do test directly so I just observer in this lab. In here limited patient just one or two patient in one day, sometime no patient came to this lab because there took sample of blood at patients home or hospital. No doctor stayed in this place. The doctor came for few minute and they went, they came 2 or 3 days only, so we had little time to chat with doctor.

I ever go to AIMS hospital, it is the biggest hospital in India. In inside I met so many doctor and nurse, but we just met them not discuss anything cause I thinks my activity there not permit. I saw the condition in there so bad, so many patients but no good ventilation, so many dust in the floor, not good light also. I saw the part of hospital very different that I seen in Indonesia. In general hospital India they classify the part of room suitable with the disease such as neurology, cancer, cardiology, respiratory etc. so they are have specific room for each disease.

I went to private clinic also such dermatology clinic to met Dr. Meeta Gupta, pediatric clinic met Dr. Rajeev Seth, family clinic met Dr. Asha Joshi, they are good personality, they explain to us about their clinic condition and explain their experience as a doctor during their carrier.

Everyday, I spent my time with all staff in office, they explain to me about their religion, food, culture, and the good place in new delhi and around this city. We built easy communication cause they can speak English well, so we can build close relation in office.

“ The extraordinary AIESEC exchange program, they gave chance to us to know the truth life experience with incredible culture, spiritual, people and food in others countries. Thanks for AIESEC DELHI IIT you gave challenge for my new life ”
