• Bharti Foundation

– Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.

– The prime objective is to bridge the existing education divide and make quality education accessible to underprivileged children in rural India.

– The Foundation aims to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential.

• Satya Bharti School Program

– The Satya Bharti School Program is the flagship program of Bharti Foundation.

– It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India.

– Present Operational Status:

• Number of Schools Operational: 236

• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu

• Number of Students Enrolled: Over 30,000

About the Community

• Geographical Location: 80 Kms. Away from Jodhpur City. Nearest city is Bhopalgarh around 9 kms. Sopara village is hilly & dry area.

• Cultural Background: Choudhary & Nayak are the main castes in the village. There are 250 houses & population is around 2000. Main occupation is farming & mining. Farming is mainly depends on rain. Only 70-80 people are serving in Army, rest of are engaged in farming, mining & labor work on daily wages. Poverty, illiteracy, Child Marriage & Mrityu Bhoj are the chief problems of this village.

• Role of Satya Bharti School in the Village: Aware the community about the revolutionary changes in the education system. In first session 2008-09 of the school, enrollment was only 70. In session 2009-10, it crossed 190. Now, it could be easily assumed that how much the community is aware about the education. It’s all due to efforts of school staff as well as the Bharti Foundation Team.

• Participation in ‘Design for Change’ School Contest: SBS Sopara is firmly determined to promote girl child education in the village.

• Community is not more interested to send their girl child at school for education.

• Maximum girls are busy in their house work, grazing animals, farm works & engaged in rearing siblings.

We ‘Felt’:

• Talk to community leaders like – Sarpanch, Ward Panch, Ex-service man & Old aged people.

• Meeting at village Chaupal.• Make some responsible person from village.• Make a rally with the help of students.• Prepare some slogans.• Prepare banners & role play.

We ‘Imagined’:

• First of all we prepare all the students in a queue in 4 groups.

• First group handled the School banner and rest of were have slogans.

• All students went at nearby village named Tambdiya Kalla around 2 kms. Away from the school.

• At the main circle of village all students gathered and talk about of girl child education to villagers.

• Returned back to Sopara village and reach at village Chaupal.

• Around 40 members were present at the village Chaupal.

• Here class V students present a role play in front of community.

• Students messaged to community that Why the education of a girl is essential in modern era.

• After completion of role play students & teachers wrote slogans on walls with the help of blue colour.

• Some of the community members came on Chaupal & signed the oath letter and promised to send their girl child to school without any failure.

• Community members were happy & amazed to see the role play by the V class students.

• Community accepted that this was the first time that any school took great initiative to promote girl child education in the village.

• 5-6 guardians admitted their girl child in our school with immediate effect.

• Students promised and tried to make more girls enrolled in schools which are living nearby their houses.

• Students enjoyed role play, rally & slogans, because they did it first time.

• The teachers who have joined Bharti recently was surprised that how much the Bharti Foundation is involved to make more students literate. They felt themselves as a “Change Maker” of society.

• All teachers make himself responsible to enrolled those girls who have been dropped out & those girls which are not going to any school to make them enrolled in our Satya Bharti Schools to talk with their parents through door to door regular home survey.
