WHAT IS AN INDEFINITE PRONOUN

• Indefinite Pronoun: An indefinite pronoun is a pronoun that replaces a noun but never specifies which noun it is replacing.

• Example: All of the teachers at Hightower Trail will have their picture taken tomorrow.

Rules

• Every once in a while you will find an indefinite pronoun that can be singular or plural not just either or.

• A lot of the time, the phrase that follows the indefinite pronoun will tell if the pronoun is plural or singular.

• If you are using a pronoun that is singular make sure the indefinite pronoun is also singular.

• Example: All of the food was still in her basket.

• In this sentence food is singular so that means the indefinite pronoun, all, is also singular. The antecedent her is also singular because all is singular.
