CHRISTIAN ETHOS

We welcome children of all faiths, who would appreciate the values of a Catholic education. Spirituality isimportant  and  here  it  develops  in  a  respectful  atmosphere.  Our motto  is  ‘Service  Before  Self’  and  pupilshave opportunities to support charities and give service to others in the local community and abroad. TheSisters, the Daughters of Divine Charity, are a visible presence in the school and play an active part in schoollife. Main/Class assemblies take place every day and whole school Masses are celebrated every term and oncertain Feast Days. At the start of the academic year, Years 3-11 make a pilgrimage to Walsingham, achance to catch up with old friends and make new ones.

SPECIAL NEEDSWe are not a specialist school but are happy to provide education for those able to benefitfrom what we offer. We work with outside agencies and have the services of both alanguage and a mathematics consultant.

ASSESSMENTParents are invited to Parents Evenings and receive two interim reports and one full reporteach year.Parents are welcome to contact the school whenever they need further information.

LUNCHAll pupils have a school lunch and there is a choice of hot or cold food. The weekly menuscan be viewed on the school website www.sacredheartschool.co.uk in the About Ussection.

PTAThe Parent Teacher Association is active and contributes to school life, fundraising atregular events such as the Christmas Bazaar, Summer Fete, Beetle Drives, Discos and QuizEvenings..

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CAREThis is available from 8am. (including breakfast if required) to 7pm. (including supper ifrequired). We offer wrap around childcare, when the unexpected happens you can be surethat your child is being well cared for. Parents should contact the school office to arrangeextra care.

BOARDINGWeekly & Flexi boarding is available for girls from the age of 8.

ACTIVITIES

Extra-Curricular MusicWe have an orchestra, a senior choir and informal bandsAny pupil who would like to join is most welcome

Instrumental / Vocal TuitionLessons are available for violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet,saxophone, piano, guitar and voice. There is a team of peripatetic musicteachers giving weekly individual lessons. These lessons are organised on arota and are 30 minutes in length The peripatetic teacher invoices theparents directly each term These lessons are booked via the term’sactivities sheet or in writing to the Office.Pupils have many opportunities to perform throughout the school year inconcerts and other productions, both at school and in the widercommunity At Christmas, all pupils take part in a carol service. Thechoir, orchestra and soloists regularly perform in other concerts andservices

· Speech and drama lessons, Sports Teams and fixtures.

· After School Activities include dance and tennis.

· Residential visits provide valuable learning for pupils and increase their

independence.

· The Ski Trip, Humanities Field Trip and Work Experience in Prague.

· Pupils also enjoy a range of other visits including the 1st World War

Battlefields in Northern France.

SENIOR SCHOOL(Year 7-11) ages 11-16 years.

· Pupils achieve excellent examination results in a positive learning

environment.

· The atmosphere is friendly but pupils are expected to have good manners and

a responsible attitude.

· Pupils are motivated to reach their full potential.

· We offer a broad and balanced curriculum.

· Creativity and curiosity are encouraged throughout the school.

· Class sizes are small.

· Typically pupils take 10 subjects at GCSE.

· Two teachers oversee the Pastoral care of each form.

· All pupils are encouraged to participate through the House System in Music

and Sport.

· The School Council is chaired by the Head Boy and Head Girl and gives the

pupils a voice on school matters.

· All pupils study Personal, Social and Health Education which includes

Citizenship, Sex Education and Careers.

Sacred Heart offers not only an education that brings strong academic

progress but also values learnt on the sports field, stage or through

creative arts. An education that gives young people the academic results

that open the doors of opportunity and the character to make the most of

those.

LOWER SCHOOL

The school caters for pupils of all abilities by providing astretching academic curriculum with plenty of time forsport, music, drama, art and play. In small classes pupilsdevelop confidence and good self esteem throughopportunities to take part in activities. Pupils have theadvantage of being able to use all the facilities of the wholeschool as well as bright well resourced classrooms. IT is anintegral part of teaching in the Lower School, using bothPCs and Tablet Computers.

· Specialist teaching for PE and Sport, Art, Pottery,Cookery, IT and French.

· Classroom assistants support pupils with Special Needs.

· Homework is an important part of re-inforcing learningand monitoring pupils progress.

· Visits to a variety of places of interest enhance learning.

· A biennial 5 day trip to France which promotesindependence as well as the language.

· Themed Challenge Days extend all pupils.

· From Year 4 pupils join the House System which enablesfriendly rivalry and fosters friendship across the agegroups, through House Events and Sports Competitions.

· The Lower School Council enables children to putforward their ideas on all aspects of school life.

LITTLE PEDLARS

(Early Years and Foundation level) 3-5 years of age.

We provide stimulating Early Years learning with anemphasis on challenging activities and imaginative play.

We have small classes with a high ratio of well qualified,experienced,  caring  staff.  ‘Little  Pedlars’  is  led  by  aqualified teacher and suitably qualified support staff. Allchildren at  ‘Little Pedlars’  are assigned a Key Person  toensure that every child’s  learning and care is tailored tomeet their individual needs. Children with special needsare supported. The curriculum includes PE, Music, Art,Pottery and Cookery.

· Pupils use the whole school facilities including theHome Economics Room and the Barn Arts Complex.

· The school grounds have a fenced play area,providing a safe inviting place for play, and awoodland area for adventure and discovery.

· Pupils may start by doing 2 or 3 full days building upto 5 full days.

· Parents have regular contact formally and informally.

· The curriculum covers the Early Years LearningGoals through the programme Tapestry.

· Inspection reports are excellent.
