independent living component (ehome system)
DESCRIPTION
The ILC is based on the eHome system, which is comprised of a network of distributed wirelessly operating sensors connected to an embedded system (the e-Home central unit). It includes features such as intelligent learning of normal and exceptional patterns of behaviour (dangerous situations or indicators for emerging health or social problems), raising of alarms and as an optionality controlling of elements which are typical for a smart-home environment.TRANSCRIPT

It was a long way
• From the first housings
to modern living
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 33
It’s the same
• for cars
that was the beginning
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 44
It’s the same
mass production started
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 55
It’s the same
and now there is a lot of technology for comfort and safety
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 66
But there is a great difference
• houses have a longer history• we spend much more of our time in our
homes than in the car• we mostly spend more money for our
home than for our car
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 77
But nevertheless ...
technology for cars is much better developed than for homes
cars have become more intelligent what about our homes?
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 88
When I am leaving my home ...
did I turn off the light, did I plug out the iron?
are all windows and doors closed?
is the cooker switched off?
and .....
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 99
When I am leaving my car
after opening the door a buzzing tone reminds me of the burning light
I lock the door using a wireless remote key
all doors get locked by the central locking system

Safety in my car
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 1111
... and at home?
Gliding inlay under the carpet Maybe fire and gas alarm ... But what else?
Why are there so many harms caused by fall downs
Where is the airbag for the bathtub or the shower?
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 1212
there is a backlog of needs on ...
... safety and comfort ... especially in homes for
older people ... living longer
autonomously at home ... apartments getting
more intelligent
LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 LLM-Workshop,Athens, May 20th, 2010 1313
... gives Ambient Assisted Living – AAL
Offering information and other technologies to help older people and people with special needs for an autonous living as long as possible
An answer ....

Scenarios
• Typical “ILC-single” scenario:
Fall detection • Herta is 79 years old. She is living alone at home. She already experienced
2 falls while the last one caused her a shoulder lesion which she is still suffering from. Herta is mentally quite fit.
• It‘s a very hot day. After breakfast Herta is listening to the radio. Before preparing lunch, she reads the newspaper and tries to solve crossword puzzles. The sun is very intense this day and heats the flat up to 35°C. While Herta is cooking she suddenly collapses.
• Because Herta is not able to give her feedback to the automatically triggered fall detection system, her daughter is informed about the incident.

Scenarios
• Typical “ILC-multi” scenario:
Manual alarm:• Mary is performing physical training in the training room
of a senior’s residence.
• Suddenly she does not feel well – she pushes the emergency button on the LUI touch screen in front of her –
• a call gets established to her trainer who is sitting in her office, the trainer asks what has happened – Mary asks for help
