African American Museum “Slavery at Jefferson’s Monticello:
Paradox of Liberty” Friday, November 2nd
9:30am departure, $5 per person will be billed to you
“Slavery at Jefferson's Monticello: Paradox
of Liberty” brings to life the story of slavery at Jefferson's Monticello through
more than 300 objects, works of art, documents and artifacts from the storied
plantation. This widely acclaimed exhibition was
organized by Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. In 2012, in partnership with
the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the exhibition premiered at the Smithsonian's
National Museum of American History . Our tour will be led by a docent. We will
return to PVN for lunch.
“The Great War, 1914-1918” Presented by Roger Quillin Thursday, November 8th
1:00pm in the Auditorium
This presentation will focus primarily on the experience of the English soldiers in
the trenches, 1914-1918. Roger has been reading about World
War I since his first trip to the battlefields in northern France and
Belgium in 1963, and has made three additional extended trips there in the
years since. Roger Quillin is a native Dallas-ite and a
retired Presbyterian minister. He is a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School
(1959), Austin College (B.A., 1963), Princeton Theological Seminary, (M. Div.,
1966) and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (D. Min. 1992).

Award-winning pianists present an exciting program ranging from the most intimate works for piano four
hands to the full symphonic exuberance of two pianos. The duo
will perform Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (Prelude to
the Afternoon of a Faun), Stravinsky’s Petrouchka,
Lutosławski’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Ravel’s La Valse and
Piazzolla’s Two Tangos.
Patriot Paws Facility Tour and Lunch Wednesday, November 14th

The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American
veterans and others with disabilities and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in order to help restore their
physical and emotional independence. They rely on donations, please plan to
bring a monetary contribution of at least $5 with you.
